The high cost of big health

Amazing interview and so profoundly depressing. Physicians are afraid to stand up. I raised my concerns as the chief of a department and was pushed out by the CEO. I had to hire an employment attorney but at the end of the day the 2 million dollar settlement did nothing to stop the problems that I raised. The hospital has insurance for employees suing. Another surgeon also sued and went public…millions of dollars in settlement and still no change. The CEO and the board are corrupt and there’s too much money being made for any meaningful change. Physicians have to be very careful when they bring their concerns about patient safety to a hospital administration. Hospitals have organized way of shutting physicians down and managing them out. My heart breaks when I think about it too much because I can’t stand to work in a hospital any longer. So here I am, in my 50s, trained at one of the top programs, and I have no desire to be a physician in a healthcare system.
thank you

Appreciate your leadership in this important arena; so critical now. I would be interested to hear more around the challenges of abusive supervision and bullying in the healthcare environment.
