The podcast where two mamas watch a lot of documentaries and judges a lot of parents in the process...with love!

    Double Feature

Surprise! Finally here is our "season finale" from our last season. It's fine to giggle a little. I'm giggling too as I type this. But this final episode is really fun and thought provoking because we discuss two short documentaries. First, we discuss the 9 minute documentary (yes, you read that correctly) Single Mother Only Daughter. Here is the synopsis from directornotes.com:

"In Single Mother Only Daughter Hong Kong born, Los Angeles filmmaker Ellie Wen has created a touching documentary exposing her own painfully honest and complex relationship with her mother. The piece is a revealing cathartic emotional journey which we witness unravelling before our eyes. I spoke to Ellie about how the film came into being and how she discovered that exposing her deepest, most agonising memories resulted in powerfully engaged audiences who related deeply to her personal story."

Our second documentary is the Academy Award winning Period. End of Sentence. A synopsis from the padproject.org who helped fund this doc:

"In 2013, Melissa Berton took a group of her students to the Annual Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations. There they learned about the problem of period poverty and about Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented a machine that manufactures sanitary pads out of natural, locally-sourced materials at a low cost—just 5 cents per unit.1 His work inspired them to help expand access to menstrual products and menstrual health management education worldwide and to make the documentary Period. End of Sentence."

This is a great episode with laughter, serious conversation, and women truly inspiring other women. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.

    Bethany Hamilton - Unstoppable

    Bethany Hamilton - Unstoppable

Surprise! Yes, we FINALLY have a new episode to you all. I (Pamela) apologize for being so, so late getting this episode out, but I promise this episode is a great one. We are discussing the documentary, Bethany Hamilton - Unstoppable and it is incredible. Here is the synopsis of the film.

"One of the most accomplished athletes of her generation, Bethany Hamilton, became a surfing wunderkind when she returned to the sport following a devastating shark attack at age 13. As she continues to chase waves, she also now tackles motherhood."

Also, sorry for y'all being able to hear me breathe so much on this episode. I promise to be investing in a new microphone soon. This was recorded way back in February and some topics are a little outdated.

    First Position

Hey listeners! Yes, this is late still (I have a four year old who no longer wants to sleep without me), but so worth a listen! We delve into the world of ballet in First Position.

You can find First Position on Amazon Prime Video here, https://www.amazon.com/First-Position-Bess-Kargman/dp/B008JAG6RE

    Here is the film's synopsis:

"Six young ballet students, all from different backgrounds, prepare for the Youth America Grand Prix, a competition in which dance schools and companies from around the world scout for new talent."

    We hope you enjoy!

    Latest episode update

    Latest episode update

Hi listeners. This is Pamela and I am leaving you a quick note about why we didn't have a new episode this week. We will have a new episode next Wednesday, April 7 and in my message, I let you know what we are reviewing. (Also, I am whispering because I am trying to get my toddler to nap. You can faintly hear her in the background begging to get up.) Cheers!

    Prince Harry and Meghan Interview

    Prince Harry and Meghan Interview

    Hey listeners!

So, this was meant to be a special bonus minisode, but life happened and we made the decision (or me, Pamela did) to release this as our regular episode. We watched the Oprah interview of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. This discussion is from our viewpoints based on what was discussed in the interview. Trigger warning: in the interview there is discussion of depression and suicidal thoughts and we discuss that as well, so if that is possibly triggering for you, please take care.

If you have not watched the interview, please do! We will spoil everything and if you do not want it spoiled, then watch. Here is the link to the interview on CBS.com, https://www.cbs.com/shows/oprah-with-meghan-and-harry-a-cbs-primetime-special/video/i6UW_WTQjLrEeOoObMmlwrFLTTypvuZm/cbs-presents-oprah-with-meghan-and-harry-a-primetime-special/. It is free, so there are ads.

Side note, we drank A LOT of wine! We are very drunk towards the end. I (Pamela) apologize for any laugh-snorting, mispronouncing words (the ro- and ru- words are hard on Southerners!)

A Century of the Queen Mother: 100 Years in 100 Minutes

Hey listeners! We have a really fun, interesting episode for y'all. We watched A Century of the Queen Mother: 100 Years in 100 Minutes. Before we give you the synopsis, spoiler alert, a lot of the information discussed relates to the latest season of Netflix's The Crown. Do not listen if you do not want spoilers.

Here is the synopsis from Amazon Prime:

"This one-of-a-kind documentary examines her love for her husband and daughters, her support for the institution of monarchy, her animosity towards Mrs. Simpson and Princess Diana and her extravagant lifestyle and love of racing, gardens and fashion."

Here is the link to the documentary, Queen Mother.
