My cup runneth over

Science Queeries

On Melbourne Cup Day, Dr Cat and zoologist & science communicator Ingrid Crossing chat about the racehorses. As people bred faster and lighter horses that win races, the horses are actually becoming less and less healthy. It comes down to genetics. Whether it’s keeping the reigns on royal pedigrees, helping horses maintain stable genetics, or protecting biodiversity in species under threat, it’s clear that a healthy gene pool is key to a strong future. Dr Cat also talks about “the cup”…menstrual cups – and new research that is a game changer when it comes to preventing spillage and infections when it’s that time of the month.
