Said another way…it’s about allowing our memories to travel back in time and experience our special car moments all over again. On My First Ride Podcast, I have fantastic conversations with people while they talk about their first ride, the memories attached to that time in their life and what kind of impact it had on them later in life. It doesn’t matter if their first ride was ten years ago, thirty years ago or more. What does matter is that they share their stories.

It was July 2017 and I finally got a chance to go to a local car show.  This car show is an annual event held in conjunction with a bluegrass music festival in downtown Wylie, Tx just before July 4th. What you’re going to see is a slide show of some pictures I took of the vehicles at Bluegrass on Ballard. It’s a short video but you’ll see some great vehicles. But wait, my first ride was a 1964 green VW convertible! What gives? We’ll Frank was the third person for that vehicle to become a first ride. You see, he bought the VW from me after I got another car. We’re going to talk about his first ride experience with the VW.

    My first ride? You probably know by now it was a VW convertible that was British Racing green with a black top and chrome wheels. In episode 27 I talked about my first Mustang. A 1979 coupe. The California Special first appeared in 1968 when Ford introduced a limited-edition Mustang exclusive to the Golden State. This model was born out of a collaboration between Ford and Shelby American, taking design cues from the Shelby GT models and blending them with Mustang's classic styling. The California Special made a triumphant return during the fifth generation of the Mustang, known as the S197, which ran from 2005 to 2014. This reincarnation paid homage to its iconic predecessor while incorporating modern design and performance elements that captured the spirit of California cruising. The Mustang GT California Special is a testament to Ford's commitment to preserving the Mustang's rich heritage while pushing the boundaries of design and performance. It captures the essence of California's sun-soaked roads, where style and power converge in perfect harmony.     My First Mustang

    This podcast is about nostalgia. Automotive nostalgia. You know, reliving the events, sights, smells, and emotions of special memories connected to our favorite rides. Said another way…it’s about allowing our memories to travel back in time and experience our special car moments all over again. My first ride? It was a VW convertible that was British Racing green with a black top and chrome wheels.That car was so much fun to drive, and I have lots of great memories associated with it. However, I did yearn for more power than the VW could deliver. When I was a senior in high school, a friend let me drive his 67 Mustang fastback in the parking lot. I couldn’t help but punch it a couple of times to smoke the tires and make noise. So much fun. The memory of power in the parking lot lingered in my memory for a long time. And then….in the mid eighties I bought my first Mustang. It was a light medium blue coupe with chrome wheels, 4 speed, 302 and glass packs. It was like being back in the school parking lot again.….so much fun. Today I’m talking about some of the 1979 Mustang history. In the next episode I’ll talk about the fifth generation Mustang, also known as the s197. This generation was produced from 2005 to 2014 with several models throughout that time. More specifically, I’ll talk about the Mustang GT California Special which was first introduced in 1968 with a targeted production run of 5000. The GT/California Special was reintroduced in 2007 and was produced through 2009. It was brought back several times up until 2017. So, be sure and check back to learn more about the GT/California Special, and why it’s of interest to me.     To sum up My First Ride Podcast for 2022 here are some of my favorite automotive highlights: - Going three for three with my 2000 Toyota pickup in car shows. - Seeing friends at a car show I had not seen in  years. - Getting to see the Viet Nam Mustang (https://youtu.be/0_eAS2Gf8vk) in  person at a car show in Murphy, TX. - After watching a couple of videos that featured a COPO Camaro on Dennis Collins’ Coffee Walk, a few days later getting to see and listen to it do a short burnout at a car show in Murphy, TX. 2022 was a good year.
