Episode 14: Thank You Kevin Conroy

I am back, hopefully for good this time. I promise I will dive into my longer than expected absence at some point but for now I want to talk about a recent loss the comic book, animation, video games, etc. community has had in the death of Kevin Conroy.  As a kid, Batman: The Animated Series meant a lot to me and was my main cartoon to watch. It was a huge influence in the Batman fan I am today and is the reason I am as big of a Batman fan. Like many others, Kevin Conroy was my Batman and was the voice of Batman whenever I read a book.  This episode is gonna be pretty raw, the only real edits I made were the ones where I had someone ring my doorbell so I do apologize for the occasional "umm's" and "uh's".  Also please note, I am a huge Power Rangers fan as well and this episode was recorded before the tragic death of Jason David Frank, I just have not gotten around to uploading until now.  As always, I appreciate all the support and hope to get back to creating this podcast as I find the experience to be incredibly therapeutic. Episode 13: My Spoiler-Filled Thoughts on Marvel's Eternals!!

I have never been so excited to get an episode out about a movie I just watched but Marvel's Eternals was an absolute must.  In this episode I'll dive into full on spoiler territory and discuss what I thought of the film as a whole. Towards the end, I talk about the MCU and give my thoughts on the critical reception to this particular film.  Special Thanks to ANtarcticbreeze for the Royalty-Free song at the beginning and end. Episode 12: Down and Dirty With All the 2021 "Summer" Movies (I've Seen)

It's been a long time since I last released anything but dammit, it feels great to be back. This episode, I'll be discussing all the "summer" movies I had the great pleasure of seeing this past year and what I'm looking forward to. Due to the length of this discussion, my previously planned back half of the episode got pushed and will be released next week as a bonus episode...or part two?  That said, I'll just go ahead and consider this the season two premiere as I gear up for (hopefully) more episodes to be released in the future.  Movies I'll be discussing in this episode include Shang-Chi, Black Widow, The Conjuring, Malignant, The Night House, Candy Man, In the Heights, Godzilla vs Kong and Mortal Kombat.  Special Thanks to ANtarcticbreeze for the Royalty-Free song at the beginning and end. The song is called "Dream World" and you can find more from this artist on Soundcloud.  As always you can find me on Twitter at PopCultureRSS or reach out to me at popculturerss@gmail.com. Episode 11: Cars vs. Horses - From GTA to Red Dead

What's up everyone? We're back with another episode of My So-Called Pop Culture Life. This week we're talking about everyone's favorite, family friendly video game franchise; Grand Theft Auto...mixed with a little Red Dead Redemption.  This one comes as a bit of a request from one of my buddies, so special shout out to him. In this episode, I'll discuss my history with the games from GTA III to GTA V as well as my experience with the Red Dead franchise. I gush over how these franchises influenced my taste in video games and how impressive it is to see Rockstar evolved from one game to the next.  UPDATE: I'm going to be starting my own Twitch channel here shortly. I've been running tests and putting things together to make sure it all goes smoothly but be on the look out for that.  I'm writing again! You can now find me on GenerationXBOX.com where I'm writing about one article per week about all things games related. I'm also helping them out with their Twitch streams on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights from 6 PM to 9 PM Central Time. Please check us out! Typically I'm streaming with my buddy Dan. You can find him on Twitch on his personal channel: Gryffindor64. Episode 10: Batman - The Hero We Need But Will Never Have

Hello! And thank you for listening to Episode 10! This week, I'll be discussing the everlasting impact of Christopher Nolan's masterful The Dark Knight Trilogy.  I'll discuss the films and reminisce about what it was like going to see them, including my six or so times seeing The Dark Knight in theaters!  I'll also discuss the emotional impact of having a Batman set in a much more grounded and real-world scenario like Nolan and Christian Bale brought us.  Toward the end of the discussion, I'll address what is becoming an unfortunate trend involving violence in the country. A few weeks ago I spoke about how the violence against Asian Americans was something that needed to stop. Unfortunately, we've hit the peak of it following the disgusting murders in Atlanta.  I apologize in advance as I get a little emotional about it but it does seem that Batman is the hero we need now more than ever but can never have.  Just a head's up, I will be talking about Batman in other media moving forward. Specifically, I'll go over the character's appearances in video games, comics and animation. Stay tuned for those.  For those interested in finding more information about supporting the Asian-American community during these times, please visit stopaapihate.org. Episode 9: Godzilla Is and Will Always Be the King

Welcome to Episode 9 of My So-Called Pop Culture Life, your bi-weekly home for everything pop culture.  This episode, I'll be diving into Godzilla and how that big green(ish) lizard has always had a place in my heart from my childhood to now my adulthood.  I talk about how great it has been to see the modernized take on the characters and the creation of the Monsterverse. I also talk about my excitement for Godzilla v. Kong and what I most anticipate seeing from the film.  Then I talk (very briefly) about Justice League and the state of DC as we head into four-hour long territory no one has ever seen.  And please, stick around to the end as I make an announcement on the future of My So-Called Pop Culture Life. It's exciting and scary so we'll see how everything goes! Thank you all again for the support through these first three months of existence. I know there are so many podcasts that are out there these days but I do appreciate you checking mine out as I hope to continue to grow.  I'm writing again! Episode 8: Minari, Representation and a Discussion of Being Asian in America in 2021

Hello! I'm back after a short delay, having to re-record this entire episode... Anyway, I saw Minari and it's so far my personal pick for the Oscar because it just works on so many levels. In this episode, I'll discuss why I loved it and talk about the current state of Asian representation in films and TV.  Major spoiler warnings ahead for Minari so if you haven't seen it, please do so.  I'll also briefly discuss Disney's slate and dive head first into my excitement for Shang Chi.  After all of that, I'll spend the rest of the episode discussing the unfortunate events surrounding hate crimes against Asian Americans in the recent months. This will be a topic I will dive deeper into at a later date as well as I do want to share my story of dealing with racism while growing up in South Dakota.  Once again, thank you all for the support as I've seen some consistent listening numbers throughout the months and have continued to see more and more followers on Twitter. It means a lot and I hope I can continue to improve as a podcaster. I'm writing again! You can now find me on GenerationXBOX.com as a freelancer and no not the type from Anthem. Episode 7: How to Get in Shape During a Pandemic? Video Games!

Let's face it, 2020 was a rough year for a lot of people. How did some, myself included, cope with the travesty that was such a wasted year? Comfort eating, seclusion, video games, etc.  Needless to say, I ended up gaining some weight, which was not the best news while I was already fighting a different health issue of my own.  So without gyms to go, how am I trying to get back into shape? Video games of course! In a bit of a detour from our regularly scheduled programming, I'll talk about my own fitness journey and how I'm using everything from dancing to VR to boxing to pistol whipping to get me there.  Thank you all again for the support, the Twitter page is now over 100 followers as I hopefully will continue to grow the podcast.  I'm writing again!
