Neuropeptides, Cells and Dipeptides - Water Parks & Messaging in the Brain

Dementia Research Charity Chatathon Podcast

On the 7th September 2020, Adam Smith hosted the Dementia Research Chatathon LIVE - to share information on the wide variety of research taking place across the world, and the raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK. Please continue to donate and help Adam meet his £5,000 target - details can be found at www.chatathon.uk.

In a way that everyone can understand, this video features Adam talking with:

Dr Emily Maguire, Research Associate, UK Dementia Research Institute at Cardiff University. Emily researches the use of human stem cells which she differentiates into brain cells to understand the pathology of Alzheimer's disease.

Dr Sarah Ryan, Alzheimer's Society Research Fellow, University of Manchester. Sarah is investigating mechanisms of neurodegeneration in C9orf72 FTD, particularly those caused by the dipeptides arising from the C9 expansion - @geekazoid.

Dr James Quinn, Neurology Research Fellow, Massachusetts General Hospital, USA (moved since recording). James studies neuropeptides in neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases to unravel disease mechanisms, working to identify new diagnostic biomarkers (something that indicated someone had dementia, and the type), and novel therapeutic targets - @tweetwithquin.
