One of my Faves
2월 9일
Love this podcast. After I watch a movie, I usually come look for their convo. There is a lot of Bayer hate in the reviews here. I really like him. I agree that they could benefit from adding some more diverse voices, or switching up more who is in the convo. I really enjoy when they don’t agree. It makes for the best conversations. Brendan Hodges is always a good dissenting voice from the normal team rotation. I’m not a huge fan of Gio, but to each their own. I’m often amused at how much I often disagree with Matt Neglia, but I really appreciate the way he can keep the convo going and listen to other opinions. It’s my fave post movie podcast bc I don’t really have “movie friends” who love them like I do. So this podcast is one of a few that fill that void for me. I feel like I’m checking in with friends for a great, thoughtful convo about them! And most importantly, they love them like I do!
The Best

The best film podcast and its really not even close
Politically butthurt and mundane.

Used to be an alright show, but one of the hosts was angry that a particular movie didn’t lean politically to the left when this country “needs it badly” according to him since Trump is in office. As a Trump supporter this is stupid to hear because that stance doesn’t represent me. I came for a movie review, not to hear somebody get butthurt that a movie didn’t voice his personal feelings he’s reflecting on an entire country when Trump won in a landslide including most of California when broken down. There’s enough politics out there now, I didn’t come listen to hear more of it on this show. Your personal opinion doesn’t represent an entire country and you should check how much he dominated the election in case you didn’t know. You lost. Get over it.
Could be Better

I like the movie reviews and discussions, don’t care for the “interviews” episodes.
Enjoyable but can be improved

Please get a de-esser!!! It makes it so hard to listen to even though I find these episodes very interesting - so much so that I skip a lot of the episode or don’t watch it altogether depending on the guest. I’m not alone in this. On the content - I don’t always agree with the reviews and I think the contributor selections can be much more inclusive but overall I still very much enjoy hearing their views. Exception is Elemental - did not like that episode as there were contributors with Asian or immigrant backgrounds, so the reviews were a total miss for me.
Insightful

Just found this podcast!! And I looove it!! It inspired me to make my own podcast about reviews a little bit more structured! Thank you guys!! I love hearing everyone’s POV.
Just ok

Mildly entertaining / good background noise, but way too long. Hosts meander, no clear structure to conversations.
Could be good, but… the vocal fry!!
2024. 12. 07.
I found the content interesting and the movie analysis compelling. However, while I tend to be fairly tolerant of podcast hosts with vocal fry - a habit/tic of an entire generation - the vocal fry displayed by one of the hosts is so grating and intense it felt like a parody of vocal fry. The vocalizations were so distracting that I couldn’t concentrate on the content, which is unfortunate because they were having a great discussion on “Juror #2.” I would either suggest the host hire a voice coach or the podcast find a new host. This is not ableism, as vocal fry is not an innate characteristic - it’s a cultural habit that can be unlearned with hard work. Unfortunately, not every voice is fit for radio, and for the first time in my entire life, I had to stop listening after 30 minutes due to vocal fry.
holy vocal fry

I tried to listen to the episode on Anora. Within the first few minutes, they throw it to this Dan Bayer person…. I could only last a few seconds before I turn it off. My goodness, his vocal fry and voice sound like an SNL parody of an NPR show. I’m very interested in movie reviews, but I can’t with this.
Tone Deaf Morons

On the “A Real Pain” episode, one of the hosts compares the election to the Holocaust, which might be the dumbest thing ever said. If I were Jewish, I would be so wildly offended by such a stupid comment like that. I don’t think I’ll be listening to this show again.
