The Nia Conversations Podcast was inspired by my own journey as a rape survivor. After going through this traumatic experience in 2013, I struggled to find content that I could resonate with and that made the healing process very lonely. The podcast is aimed at reaching out to others who’ve been through, or are still going through life-changing traumas. Through my journey, I hope to shine the spotlight on healing, mental health, wellness, meaningful conversations, wellness and and my walk with God.

Inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh’s book, Reconciliation: Healing the Inner Child, this episode explores what the inner child is and how we can begin to recognize and nurture their presence. I also share personal reflections on my own childhood—both the warm, loving memories that shaped me and the wounds of abandonment and rejection that I’ve had to face and heal. Through this, I’ve come to understand how childhood wounds can influence our behaviour, relationships, and choices, often in ways we don’t immediately recognise. Join me as we unpack these emotions, reflect on our own experiences, and learn to approach our inner child with love, warmth, and compassion.     46. Trusting God and loved ones with my pain

    Hi, friends! Welcome to the Nia Conversations Podcast with me, Siya Ben. I hope you're well and taking care of yourself. Remember, no matter what you're going through, life has a way of working itself out. In today's episode, as part of our "Healing through Connection" series, we're focusing on rebuilding trust after trauma. Trusting again, whether it's in ourselves, others, or even in God, can be incredibly challenging after experiencing deep pain. I'll share my personal journey, starting with the day of my assault and how it altered my life and relationships. I'll talk about the struggles with trust, the initial anger and confusion, and the moments of feeling let down by God. I’ll also read an excerpt from my journal in 2013, where I captured the raw emotions and challenges I faced. And we'll dive into the healing process—how I learned to trust God again, to be honest and open about my pain, and to rebuild meaningful connections with my loved ones. My therapist taught me the importance of understanding people's capacities to support us, which allowed me to set healthier expectations and cultivate trust in a more gentle, accepting way. As we wrap up, I’ll leave you with a question to reflect on: What does trust look like in your own life, and how can you nurture it in a way that honors your journey?
