First of its kind homeless navigation center opens in Red Bluff
PATH Plaza — the first and only homeless shelter in Tehama County —officially opened its doors this week. However, advocates say it’s not enough to address homelessness in the area fully. Also, more roadwork is set to begin in Chico next week as the city breaks ground on a project improving the Esplanade corridor, and unofficial results from a special election showed Chester voters said no to a tax for fire and ambulance services.

The only in-patient mental health facility in Butte County is closing its doors
Enloe Behavioral Health — which is the only voluntary in-patient mental health facility in the region — has announced it plans to shut down this August. The move comes amid shortages of mental health professionals in the area and a lack of resources. Also, the group Students for Justice in Palestine, Chico staged a "Study in Solidarity" on Chico State’s campus yesterday, and more housing units may soon be available in Plumas County.

Will a new CPUC proposal help make electricity more affordable in California?
California energy regulators will decide on a proposal tomorrow that would restructure how utility companies bill for electricity. If approved, the price of electricity would drop, but residents would see a fixed charge for infrastructure costs. Also, Orland grew by nearly five percent last year, making it the fourth fastest-growing city in California, and Butte County will hold a community meeting in Bangor tomorrow about updating evacuation maps.

Students, faculty gather at Chico State in walkout for Palestine
A walkout at Chico State organized by Students for Justice in Palestine brought dozens of students together on campus. Also, the city of Chico may formalize a deal with Butte County to fund a new sobering center, and Shasta County is saying goodbye to its former Clerk and Registrar of Voters, Cathy Darling Allen, as she retires this week after nearly 20 years in office.

Food stamps farmers market program faces chopping block due to California's budget deficit
As California faces a multi-billion dollar budget shortfall this year, one program on the chopping block is Market Match that provides extra money to use on produce at farmers markets. Also, assistance is now available to help Dixie Fire survivors rebuild homes or rental properties, and Butte County wants to know how you think your tax dollars should be spent.

Shasta County's Registrar of Voters is retiring, it's unclear how the vacancy will be filled
Shasta County's long-serving registrar of voters is retiring tomorrow. Nobody in the county is quite sure how the vacant seat will be filled. Also, an education center for Native American youth is opening in Greenville soon, and residents in Red Bluff struggling with homelessness now have somewhere to go for support.
