“Fashion and family focused” with Anthea O’Connor
For a lot of women, fashion is fun.
It’s an opportunity to showcase who you are through what you wear. For other women, it can fall to the bottom of the priority pile for financial reasons or simply because there can be an overwhelming pressure that the women that wears the garment, has to fit within the marketed idea that fashion is for the beautiful, and a lot of the time, for the youthful.
So we speak to Anthea O’Connor who has spent her career weaving fashion in many forms in with her family life. A committed 10 years at Vogue Australia, to TV Presenter for fashion shows such as “What Not to Wear” on 7 Network and ‘The Circle” on Network Ten, and now an established Fashion Stylist. We talk about the evolution of fashion within her life as she evolves as a woman, and how the juggle of committing to a full-time career in fashion changed with the juggle of raising a family. How does a woman keep connected to who they are in each era of their lives, by what they wear? And how does a woman who continues to evolve, stay confident with their fashion, in a world where youth and beauty remains the aspiration?

“Mothers Day lunching, Met Gala and our upcoming Fashion Fortnight!”
Bec and Zoe recap on the interview the week prior, the impact it’s had on them as individuals, and how they both drew different ideas from their guest and implement changes in the endeavour to change it up, or give it a go.
Then there is always a ramble involved (usually by Bec) where they chat about what’s been happening and how they have or haven’t managed their current juggle, in their attempt to not be super, but a woman.

“Surviving Survivor” with Caroline Courtis
Australian Survivor, a long running incredibly loved TV Series.
Loved for its heart thumping challenges, unbelievable (and at times seemingly unbearable) living circumstances for its players, and the endless unfolding drama from alliances and the double crosses of those trying to win at tribal council.
In this season of Titan’s Vs Rebels, Caroline Courtis entered the game - A 55yr old woman, mum of 3 and midwife, who was finally in a place in her life where she was ready to do something truly for her and test herself in the ultimate way.
47 days stranded in Samoa with 24 contestants, split into two tribes - ‘Titans’, a tribe made up of career leaders, and ‘Rebels’ a tribe made up of the free spirited who forged new paths, were lead to compete, then ultimately merge for the win, as the two tribes dwindled after each tribal council and Caroline made it to the final 2 and the final Tribal Council.
The question begs - who would want to push themselves like this? And what were the driving factors in the life before Survivor that pushed them to do so? Caroline was in a place where she had every right to sit back a little and smell the roses, but she didn’t, she chose to put the very so often benched middle aged women on our TV screens in one of the worlds hardest TV challenge games and push herself to her limits. Although being questioned by a fellow tribe member for ‘what she actually brought to the game’, Caroline managed to show the world the years of raising a family, being at the forefront of thousands of births and in a dedicated career care role, brought a strength, tenacity and resilience that only a wife, mum and woman in her 50’s could.

“Managing The Mental Load” with Verity Tuck
Book Week dress up day, gold coin donation day, Parent teacher interviews, Sally performing in school assembly, Jack’s birthday party and Charlie’s basketball match.. all in one day!
Then add in your work schedule, the household management and general family and parenting planning.
When and how did our lives get so overloaded?
The daily to do list as a parent has become extreme, as opportunity, technology and pace have sped up over generations.
For the majority this falls mostly on the mum, and whilst the kids are at school, and really until their self sufficient adults, it doesn’t end.
Verity Tuck, a woman and mum, that managed to successfully build up and ultimately sell her online same day flower delivery service LVLY, decided to stop and smell the roses for a while after the sale of her first start up.
Verity moved her family North of Australia to be beachside and try a new hand at life after what was an exhaustive process of selling her start up.
It was during that time that two things happened, Verity’s daughter had started school and what was already a juggle of Whatsapp groups, child care and kids activities, increased tenfold with school commitments and Verity and her husband Mike who were already feeling pinch of parental pressure, felt it creep up to a new level.
All the while, whilst taking time out of being the engine room of a business, Verity could feel the fire in her belly to do something in the start up world again, and felt driven to tackle what she could feel was the cause family life chaos and tackle a cure for the mental load with new technology.
The saying ‘it takes a village’ is fact for people raising children, but not all of us have access to that village, so in the new world of technology, Verity and her husband Mike, were ready to build the village via tech, and support the overwhelming mental load of parents.
