s2 e6 — EVA BRAUN and BIBI AISHA: the complicit and the brave Notorious Women

    • Comedy

This week, Lavetta recounts the life of Hitler’s complicit mistress turned wife, Eva Braun; and Miriam tells the story of brave Afghan wife turned activist Bibi Aisha.
-----
In this episode, Lavetta introduces Eva Braun (German, 1912–1945), the notorious woman who became Adolf Hitler's wife. Despite her initial apolitical stance, Braun was fully aware of Hitler's actions and was a loyal supporter of the Nazi regime. She lived a sheltered life during World War II, spending her time shooting home movies and enjoying the privileges of being Hitler's partner. Ultimately, she died by suicide alongside Hitler in their bunker as the war was coming to an end. Next, Miriam introduces Bibi Aisha (Afghan, living, no dates), a woman from Afghanistan who was forced into marriage at a young age and subjected to abuse. She eventually escaped but was captured and mutilated as revenge. Her story gained international attention and she received reconstructive surgery in the United States. Despite facing psychological trauma, Aisha showed resilience and expressed a desire to help others. The hosts discuss the broader issues of forced marriage, misogyny, and religious extremism.
