    God Loves me - Loves Humanity in Service

    Today is the 292nd anniversary of the founding of the Redemptorist Congregation by St Alphonsus Liguori in 1732. Fr Glenn reflects on his vocation journey- did he have doubts? Second thoughts? Yes he did. The opposite of faith is not doubt, but certainty. If one is certain of God’s love for them, why would they need faith? And in discerning one’s vocation, there is doubt. It is about taking the risk, that first step, trust, mingled with doubt to discern if God is calling you to that way of life. Similarly, we take risks in our lives- whether a new job or new relationship or singlehood- we step forward in faith, mingled with 2nd thoughts. Faith is like life, full of ups and downs. Like the heart monitor, if it is flatlined, we are dead. Let us pray to Mother Mary for more vocations to the Redemptorists.

    What is the Darkness Within Me?

    It's good for us to reflect on the darkness within ourselves and around us. As we prepare for Advent, we reflect on the theme, Birth, the Light of the World. We associate darkness to the moments God is absent in our lives, the moments we fall into sin, or when evil, selfishness, pride, cruelty and greed rule over us. With the birth of Christ, the light illuminates the darkness in our lives. He's the ray of light that cuts through our darkness. In Jesus, we find hope, joy, peace and strength to live each day positively. As we also celebrate All Souls' Day, remembering someone we lost can also make us feel dark and painful. But through Jesus, we believe that death is not the end, and we rejoice in the promise of a reunion with our loved ones in heaven. -Novena Devotion by Fr. Terence Wee, C.Ss.R. (2 November 2024)

    Annunciation - Trust in God

    Today we begin the advent novena reflections. The theme for this special novena is Jesus Christ, A Christmas Gift, God’s Love for us. In this first week of the advent novena, Fr Yosef reflects on the Annunciation - Trust in God. We all know about the story of Mother Mary and angel Gabriel. God’s plan is often full of surprises and beyond our understanding. God’s ways are not meant to confuse us but to invite us to trust him even when we don’t understand. Trusting God does not mean that our lives will be free of difficulties, but it assures us that He is in control, and He will always hold our hand and never let us walk alone.     Finding Hope when we Pray in Solidarity

    Many of us encounter challenges that can seem insurmountable, such as relationship conflicts, illnesses, or personal hardships. These struggles are often conveyed through letters of petition. However, amidst these difficulties, there are also times of thanksgiving, when individuals express profound gratitude, as evidenced by letters of thanksgiving. While struggles may persist, Fr. Vincent reminds us of the importance of faith in God and trust in the intercession of Mary, even when answers do not come immediately. When we come to the Novena to pray, we pray as a community, and we continue to walk together in hope. We are never alone. -Novena Devotion by Fr. Vincent Low, C.Ss.R. (19 October 2024)

    The Power of the Rosary

    Today’s reflection is on the power of the rosary. In Lk1:26-28, angel Gabriel addresses Mary “Hail full of grace, the Lord is with you.” Br Celestine cites 2 examples illustrating the power of the rosary: 1. A group of American military men whom he met, who had been in the war in Afghanistan and Iran etc-they tell of their indebtedness to our blessed mother for saving their lives during some of the bombings. In fact, not only do they carry sophisticated weapons with them at war, they also carry a special gift-the rosary. 2. A Jesuit house surviving the Hiroshima atomic bomb on August 6, 1945. 8 Jesuits survived the bomb with no residual radiation effects or hearing loss. 1 of the survivors, Fr Hubert Schiffer attributes their survival to our lady as they prayed the rosary daily at that house. As May and October are the months of the rosary, we are invited to carry the rosary with us and to pray it in our daily lives. 1. Praying the rosary affirms our trust in God through Mary- May we take example from Mary as she trusts God even as she goes through her sorrows, her difficulties in life., watching her son die on Calvary. May we gain strength and hope from meditating on the rosary. 2. Praying the rosary builds our relationship with God-Meditating on the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus draws us closer to God and as we pray the rosary, we can experience the power of Mary’s intercession and divine assistance. With that in mind, may we experience the power of the rosary and may we experience the beauty and wonder of God in our lives and be assured that Mary will always intercede for us and be with us.     Meeting Pope Francis Like a Prodigal Son

    Deacon Antony Prabhu used the Parable of the Prodigal Son to share his own encounter with Pope Francis, and how he went from being not optimistic about his chances at a ballot to shaking the Holy Father's hand and kissing his ring. In the brief few seconds, what Deacon Antony saw was as a shepherd, a father, and a man of immense kindness and sacrifice, and above all, a disciple of Christ. -Novena Devotion by Rev.     The Prodigal son - Calling me back to the service of God

    Today’s reflection is part 1 of Rev Antony’s testimony of his journey back to his vocation from a lay devotee to deacon who served next to Pope Francis at the Papal mass. He explained about the diaconate ministry and the role of deacons as guardians of service. Deacons are sensitive to the needs of the people in need, serving with love and humility, finding Jesus in one another, sustained by prayer and a devotion to the rosary. This life of service is to follow the example of Jesus Christ who came to serve but not to be served. Please stay tuned next week for part 2 of Rev Antony’s testimony .     To Hope & Act with Creation - My Home

    Each year, from September 1 to October 4, Catholics join Christians worldwide in celebrating the Season of Creation. During this time, we reflect on the beauty of God's creation and the shared responsibility to care for it. Fr. Ino reminds us of the importance of this call, emphasizing that we are all entrusted with the task of protecting and nurturing the earth. The theme for this year's Season of Creation, "to hope and act with creation," invites us not only to contemplate the gift of creation but also to take concrete actions that reflect our love and stewardship for the environment. -Novena Devotion by Fr.
