NT Pod 105: What is Translation Inertia?

NT Pod 105, "What is Translation Inertia?" discusses a problem in English translations of the Gospels. The sheer familiarity of famous translations, often dating back to the King James Version of 1611, can prevent us from translating the Bible into accurate contemporary English. There are many examples of this, but this podcast begins with "There is therefore now no condemnation . . ." and "For God so loved the world . . .," and goes on to focus on the terms "stumbling block" and "disciples." I thought it might have ended in 2022 but am thrilled there are new episodes coming out. The scholarship and expertise is outstanding. I don’t understand some words or concepts but still enjoy learning about the NT from those interested in exploring it as fully and objectively as possible, instead of those who cherry-pick passages to push their judgmental opinions.

Sadly the juvenile happiness expressed in the narrators voices belies the non scholarly superficial review of the texts. Of course over how feminine the texts are. A worthless pursuit as the gospels are not data for feminism.

I enjoy listening to NT Pod, as it not only keeps me connected to my undergrad education at Duke, but it also continues to feed my appetite for learning. All that said, I am holding out hope for an ABBA-themed episode in the near future!
