    My Last Helmet Note…EVER! [Ep. 396]

    I dreaded the day knowing it was coming…and it’s here. Since my son Luke was in the 7th grade and he started playing Pop Warner football, I always put a “helmet note” in his helmet the night before every game. I did the same thing with my son Brady as well, albeit a different message. I do the same thing with what I call “Cleat Notes” for my daughter McKenna’s lacrosse and soccer games now. But this weekend is my last HELMET NOTE. WOW. I’ve never shared a HELMET NOTE publicly…until today. 10+ years of writing notes before ALL their games. Sometimes it’s a few sentences. Normally it’s a few paragraphs. Every now and then it’s a bit longer. Today, it’s DEEP. On today’s IMPACT SHOW podcast, you will hear… How my father started the tradition of “Helmet Notes” with me as a 6th-Grade Pop Warner player and the IMPACT it had on me. The frame-work of every HELMET NOTE or CLEAT NOTE. Why do “Helmet Notes” or “Cleat Notes” for your kids? My LAST HELMET NOTE. “9” Traits of Greatness.     INTERN Q&A: Starting a Business, Wisdom, & What Pain Teaches Us [Ep. 394]

    What a fun episode today as I got the opportunity to sit down and chop it up with 3-young college interns from Fitness Quest 10 and their Director (Ryan Rogers). It was awesome to have an open conversation on all things on their mind and how I can help them on their journey in health, fitness, & coaching. They asked some very thought-provoking questions that lead to deep reflections and deep answers. Here are the questions that the 3 interns (Larry Hando, Max Jackson, and Ian Castillo) asked Ryan Rogers and I on today’s IMPACT SHOW podcast: 1. "What was the moment that you knew you wanted to go into fitness & motivational speaking and what has made you stay on this path?" 2. "How do you find the balance between personal life and your passion for fitness and helping people?" 3. “How do you keep your mind right through the pain & struggle you have had to endure?" 4. “When you're in your dark times, or you fail, or you feel guilty about something, how do you process that and get through it?” 5. "How do you keep your ego in check when working with both high-level athletes and everyday clients? How do you stay humble and treat everyone equally?" 6. "What’s the most fulfilling part of your work and how do you stay motivated after years of coaching?" 7. “What advice do you have for young coaches or trainers just starting out in the industry?" 8. “In 24-years of Fitness Quest 10, what were your fondest memories and most special experiences, accolades, or events?” Man, did I love this conversation. The importance of building relationships and the right network, as this lends to your community that you are part of. How to deal with physical pain, loss, failure, and challenge…and how they ultimately can serve as catalysts for growth also. The Beauty of the Beginning, when there were no frills and just hard work, dedication, and a driving vision to help people. Wisdom & advice for New Coaches & Trainers. MAN!! This was such a fun episode and it was so great getting to connect with these young interns who are eager to learn and grow in the fitness industry. Their questions reminded of the power of consistency, the importance of showing up, and the incredible impact coaching can have on someone.     It’s a BIG week. There is a presidential election going on, we have the Grand Opening for IMPACT-X Performance in Huntington Beach, CA, and it’s Parents Weekend at Davidson College this weekend as my son Luke has only 2 football games left in his college career.     Celebrating Momma Durkin: Parenting Life Lessons & a $25,000 Trip | Ep. 390

    I’m sitting on the banks of Lake Norman, NC, as I record this and I’m feeling especially sentimental and emotional. There are several reasons why, but none more than the fact that my Mom, “Muffy” Durkin, is aging and she turns 92-years old this week. She’s down in Florida resting-up and I want to celebrate her with all of you in my podcast community. As a matter of fact, I want to dedicate this episode to her today.    My family has been spending a lot of time down in FL the last several months as she needs round the clock health care. Well, I’ve shared before that Mom has not thrown out too much sentimental stuff over the years (remember, I’ve also shared that’s where I received this bad “pack-rat gene” from) and I’ve joked that it will someday come in handy. Today is ONE of those days…    Here is what I share in this week’s episode: A birthday letter I wrote to my Mom in 1986 (when I was just 15-years old). 4-special traits I want to share about Momma Durkin.
