On China’s New Silk Road
Join host Mary Kay Magistad as she explores how China's New Silk Road may change the world. Dozens of countries have invited China to build roads, railways, ports, 5G networks, and more. How is China’s global ambition seen around the world and what impact are its investments having on the ground? Over nine episodes, Mary Kay, a former China correspondent for NPR and PRX’s “The World,” partners with local journalists on five continents to uncover the effects of the most sweeping global infrastructure initiative in history.Produced by the Global Reporting Centre (GRC), an editorially independent journalism organization based at the UBC School of Journalism, Writing, and Media. One key aspect which makes this series stand out are the interviews with a variety of local people on every stop on the journey.

The Belt and Road is a project that deserves much more attention than it is getting now. It’s important for the US to understand what it is and how it can affect the future of international politics.
Fascinating

Really important reporting on a huge Chinese effort taking place almost completely under the radar of everyone in the West. The meticulous research has uncovered evidence of this long-sighted project to create a robust worldwide supply and market network in places that get little attention from our governments and multinational companies. The end result will likely be greater economic strength than we ever believed possible, and less influence by the Western powers over China.
Great start!

The second episode on Kazakhstan was exceptionally well done and I personally learned a lot about the nuances of the belt and road initiative in this former Soviet republic. I look forward to the coming episodes and highly recommend this to anybody that’s interested in the future of world power

Mary Kay Magistad has once agin taken an important, multi-dimensional global issue and reported on it with erudition, humanity and authority. One of the hallmarks of her incisive, informative and highly enjoyable podcasts is how fluidly she moves from the small telling details that personalize a story to the big picture of why it matters and how it ramifies. Fascinating, eye-opening. The world is changing and we’re not paying attention (until now!). Amazing stuff in here, a road map to the future—and China is driving. Luckily with this podcast we can ride shotgun. Can’t wait for more episodes...
