great promo for the complete series
This podcast should be treated as a free sampler for the complete series, which is sold in the Albums section. The coolest thing here is that the selections are very short, so they can be played in shuffle mode. Note that playing this in shuffle mode does not sound at all wierd.
Looking back now, this short-lived radio series is one of the few true signposts in the evolution of comedy. It also served as the launching pad for many talented writers and performers. The Daily Show owes much of its format to this series. As with Saturday Night Live as compared to Monty Python, The Daily Show adds wink-wink 'cute' irony to the formula. All of which makes On The Hour more of a revolutionary turn, as its sharp satire is also focused on its own medium and mindset, which takes more guts than we would like to admit.
Oh, forget the pedantic stuff. This show is so very hilarious. It's free--what are you waiting for?
Fantastic if you like dark humo[u]r.
Exceedingly dark yet usually quite clever. You're likely to find yourself laughing in spite of yourself, if you aren't actively offended by it.
