One Handshake Away: Peter Bogdanovich and the Icons of Cinema

When iconic director, actor, critic and historian Peter Bogdanovich was getting his start in the movie business, he had the opportunity to interview some of the greatest directors of the Golden Age of Hollywood, including Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Howard Hawks, and John Ford. In the process, he accumulated a treasure trove of conversations with masters of cinema. Near the end of his own storied career, and what would turn out to be the end of his life, Bogdanovich decided to take his career full circle and began to interview his favorite contemporary directors about their heroes from the past. Bogdanovich passed away before this project could be completed. His ex-wife Louise Stratten stepped in to serve as narrator and co-host, with three-time Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro filling in as host for the final three episodes. One Handshake Away is a collection of unprecedented longform conversations with some of the most acclaimed directors working today. Quentin Tarantino, Ken Burns, Greta Gerwig and others pay homage to the influence of the directorial legends of the past, bringing listeners One Handshake Away from the icons of Hollywood's past and present.

One more Visit with Bogdanovich

A genuine delight to have a few more laughs and observations with Peter Bogdanovich. His commentaries have been incredible, invaluable company over the years—-and always inspiring. The conversations between filmmakers in “One Handshake Away” are a well-produced gift of a podcast. A final visit with the great cinema conversationalist.
Frustratingly Close To Perfection

This podcast is one that I should absolutely love, one that feels like it was made for me…but… The person who cuts in (narrating and leaving their voice and laughter in) during the interviews ruins it. Unless you hear the raw footage no one can say for certain, but I feel just a bit more creative editing would make their presence completely unnecessary. It rips me out of the show. It’s comparable to watching a movie and having the director giving notes to the actors, laughing at jokes, and explaining each scene. The set ups are overkill to the majority of listeners who, I’m willing to bet, are some level of cinephile. If a version comes out with just Peter talking to his guests, past and present, I’d give it five stars and would listen to each episode multiple times.
Thank you!

It looks like the Tarantino podcast has been adjusted. Nice catch!
Entertaining...

I’ve enjoyed the interviews tremendously, but there is a woman with an AI generated voice, it sounds like, doing narration, which is a little off-putting.
