Craig Dworkin, author of Parse (Atelos, 2008), No Medium (MIT Press, 2013), and founding senior editor of Eclipse sits down with me in Salt Lake City to discuss the origins of the Eclipse archive in terms of both its conception and how it was originally coded and put online. We discuss the given moniker “archive,” and Eclipse’s relation to databases, protocols, and algorithms -- maintaining an eye toward materiality — the relationship between those JPEGs of a scanned chapbook and its letterpressed, paper-and-ink sibling.

Huw Lemmey

For the fifth episode of One on One, I talk to writer Huw Lemmey in his flat in East London. Huw’s work can be found online at the New Inquiry, Rhizome, and the Verso Books blog (where he used to work), and his first book, Chubz, was released last fall by Montez Press. In our chat, Huw and I touch on three major themes: geolocation in apps like Grindr and how it shapes the city for those who use it — on the bus, in the cafe. We speak on how a psychogeography of the city and the daily lives become increasingly layered through the use of technology. And finally, we touch on the ways in which print media differs from this technology and how information can find different ebbs and flows through each form of media.
