Great Networking with Amy Horner, Founder True Nine

Great Networking with Amy Horner, Founder True Nine

Networking is a crucial aspect of any business. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned business professional, building relationships can help you gain valuable insights and find new business opportunities.  This series shares conversations with four extraordinary business women, from the Warrior community, to discuss the skills of networking. Many people struggle with networking, or get started too late, and this is the conversation to put us on the right path. We will discuss how we can cultivate the proper mindset and what tips, stories and perspectives can we learn that will make us better networkers.

Our series begins with a conversation with Amy Horner, Founder and Principal Consultant at True Nine. She founded True Nine to help professionals embrace the opportunities and challenges made possible by change. She brought to this conversation so much wisdom, helping us to understand what a network is and how we can nurture one. Amy shares with us her experience growing her own extensive network, the importance of quality over quantity and advice she received that continues to resonate with her today.

Amy is a strategic change and organizational transformation expert. She is also a mentor, board member, and doctoral student.

Before founding True Nine, she was the COO and CFO for multiple organizations, guiding them through periods of intense change. In these roles, she led strategic planning and innovation initiatives that resulted in diversified revenue streams, new and expanded service offerings, better brand awareness, increased market share, a more engaged workforce, and improved financial results.

In addition to working with clients on strategic planning and organizational transformation, or as Fractional COO, Amy is a dynamic keynote speaker. Her audiences are motivated by her experiences in change leadership, network cultivation, and goal-setting strategies.

(6:48) Did anyone set Amy up with “do’s & don’ts” before she encountered her first networking experience?   (
8:56) How do you know that you have a good network?  What were some of the things Amy did early on, while cultivating her network?
(10:54) What is a network? How would Amy describe one?
(13:44) Was there a particular piece of advice Amy received from her Network that still resonates?
(17:44) How can we evaluate and nurture our own networks?  What advice can Amy share with us?
(19:55) What “ask” does Amy have for the Warriors? What can Amy “offer” the community? Who or what would she like to acknowledge?

    Transformation with David Brown Jr.

    Transformation with David Brown Jr.

This week we continue to explore the power of transformation with my special guest, David Brown Jrs (DBJ), Head of Operations Support and Business Controls for the US Businesses at Prudential Financial. He is also an author, coach and one of the coolest spiritual individuals I have known over the years. He shares with us how he defines transformation, but more importantly how he helps others step into their own transformational spaces.

By sharing his own experiences with transformation we learn the importance of going beyond the transformation itself and instead defining it by the change in perspectives of those involved. At its core, the alignment of individuals wrapped up in the transformation are the true guide of its success or failure. We also discuss the power of resistance and resonance and how emotions and experiences can shape our path to transition.

David Brown Jr. is an authenticity thought leader who has served as an operations executive, leadership coach and consultant. He has over ten years of experience as a senior leader in small and large companies across the financial services, professional services and facilities management industries. David previously held the position of Chief Operating Officer for a mid-size government contracting firm and currently is the Head of Operations Support and Business Controls for the US Businesses at Prudential Financial. He has led operating teams or provided strategic consulting to product and service lines that include credit cards, mortgages, facilities maintenance, asset management, government contracting and individual life insurance.

David took time away from corporate America to train as a coach, while also writing his first book, Letters for Lucia: 8 Principles for Navigating Adversity. During that period, he developed a new perspective on leadership development that centered on authenticity.

(2:30) How does DBJ “vibe” with the word transformation? How is this a part of his story?

(4:17) How does DBJ define transformation?

(6:12) What are some of the emotions that we associate with transformation?

(15:42) How did DBJ figure out that this was what he wanted to do, embracing and sharing the tools of transformation?

(18:46) What are some of the conditions that can make transformation successful?

(22:30) How do we overcome when we are resistant to change/transformation?

(28:40) What is the best way to measure transformation, success or failure?
