    Hot topic day. This episode Josh and Kevin dive into "hot topics". Opinions and thoughts on issues that have arrived or been brought up in discussion on social media. Issues we discuss are the dumping of several coyotes in a ditch near a local establishment and a school bus pickup/drop off spot. We go over the "BODA" rules including penalties for violations, we discuss the reason why you SHOULD not be doing this, from just a plain responsible and ethical standpoint to some unintended consequences of doing this, we talk about proper ways to dispose of animals, and available uses. We then get on the topic of terminology, why some terminology commonly used is best kept (in our opinion, isn't the 1st amendment great?!) in our circle, and not with the public as well as personal reasons WHY WE prefer to use certain terms. Then we move off the "hot topics" and get into a little bit of technical about suppressors, setting up a gas block on a semi auto, and nuances of suppressors. And lastly we talk a bit about a couple recent hunts, Kevins deer, and our coyote hunting. As always, THANK YOU for listening.     Fireside Chat with Josh and Kevin

    This week Josh and Kevin sit down for a fireside chat. We start off discussing a little bit about the seasons, archery and rifle, and what cartridges are popular (meaning sales that Kevin has seen at his shop) specifically in terms of the .450 bushmaster and .350 legend for the limited rifle zone, where he has not seen a demand so far for the newer cartridges, the .350 seems to be leading the pack. We then get into discussing a bit about reloading, how small mistakes in terms of powder and failure to follow the manuals or other established data can be disastrous, we also talk a little about the differences between black powder and smokeless powder. Then we discuss Joshs most recent archery hunting experiences. The highs and lows, time at the new family cabin, and the value of having family together in a hunt camp. And to end we talk about the ATC charity event a bit and plans for the upcoming rifle season.     Catchin' up with Razor Broadheads

    This week Kevin and Josh welcome back Dave Buikema of Razor Broadheads. We start off by talking about some recent hunts, Coyotes and deer, including dealing with owls when calling, as in dodging them. We then get into deer hunting, hearing about both Daves and Josh's recent adventures. We talk about specifics of broad head performance, the what's and whys of terminal performance in actual field use, and some more testing that Dave wishes to do to find out in the future. We hear from Dave about Razor Broadheads new offerings, 125gr up to 300 grain broadheads and a new color option (the ever fashionable black) We also get into discussing the EHD issue, how it has effected the herds in different areas, including local deer farms, and how one deer farm owner has found that he can tell (according to him) which deer are infected by viewing them through thermal. We discuss as well the mindset of hunters and how it is ever so slowly changing in regards to balancing the herds in areas in terms of the buck to doe ratio.     This week, Josh is live from deer camp with his brother Kyle. They discuss a bit of Kyles time living in Florida, learning to fish for species he wasnt used to catching back home in Michigan. They then move on to the weekends hunting, expectations from trail camera details, and scouting results. They each discuss their hunts, what was seen, what was heard and what was learned. Josh tells a story of heart break on a dandy public land 8 point, and Kyle tries to determine why deer seem to disappear on the weekends. We hope you are all having a great deer season so far!     You never forget your first! Dom Zambelli

    On this episode Josh and Kevin welcome Dom Zambelli to the show. Dom is a Michigan hunter who recently had his 1st successful deer hunt here in Michigan. We hear about Doms hunting history, and his journey into deer hunting. We discuss the tools he used, tactics and the whole story of his 1st deer, everything from scouting to field dressing it by himself, and what he plans on doing with it, like saving the liver, but not the heart, as we talk about various methods of cooking different parts of the deer. We get into what Dom learned from that hunt, how he may change either gear or tactics and what his future plans of hunting other animals includes, such as waterfowl. We also discuss a bit about Josh's recent hunts and the hunt that Kevin joined him on, getting back into a tree for the 1st time in probably 6 years. As always, THANK YOU FOR LISTENING.     Treestand safety- Ross Graveling

    This week Josh and Kevin welcome back returning guest Ross Graveling. Ross is part of Sportspersons Ministries and an avid outdoorsman. We start by talking about a couple recent hunts, then get into the topic this week, hunter safety. Ross has been teaching hunter safety for awhile now to both kids and adults. We talk about Michigan specific stuff, what to do if you can't find your hunter safety certificate, the importance of safety and how the courses are done. Ross tells us about the variety of students from both young and old, men and women that attend the courses. We then get into Bow hunting and hunting from a tree stand specifically. The importance of safety systems, like straps even for when hanging a stand and the anti-fall devices. We discuss personal and other instances of accidents that could have been avoided by using such systems. Later in the discussion we talk about the importance of communicating where you are hunting and expected times of return, so that in the event of an accident getting help to you soon is more likely.     Kevin and Josh- 2 weeks in review

    This week's podcast is a fire side chat with Josh and Kevin. We recap Kevins recent coyote hunt in the woods at night, talking about using thermal in thick cover, being able to see brush and such. We talk about Joshs deer hunting early season with his Kids for both the youth season and early doe, we get into the .350 legend, how the kids handled it and how it performed on deer. We delve into using LRF and various range finding methods, talking about using built in laser range finders, vs handheld. We talk a bit about using "Mil-dot" systems and how they can be a very good tool, IF you know how to use them, and the details about using them. Along with various optics that use them or similar systems. Josh and Kevin both talk about deer camp, what it means to them, how just being at camp is such a comforting feeling, no matter where the camp is.
