Teaching Diversity with Books with Tracey Baptiste

A great children's book should have a well-crafted story, engaging language, and entertaining illustrations. This combination can stimulate your child's cognitive development, support early reading skills, and foster a stronger connection between you and your child during shared reading time.

During this episode, Tracey Baptiste, a New York Times bestselling author, discusses her recently published book, Mermaid and Pirate. This book has served as a model for Disney's upcoming live remake of The Little Mermaid. It stars Halle Bailey - the first and so far only black Ariel. She wrote this book because she was inspired by her love for the ocean, fantasy, and storytelling.

An Excellent Resource

As an early education and child development professor, I am always looking for valuable resources to help parents and caregivers support the healthy development of young children. I recently came across the podcast Nurtured Noggins with Ann McKitrick, and I am now a big fan! One of the things that struck me about this podcast is the depth of knowledge Ann McKitrick brings to the table. She has a wealth of experience working with children and families, and her insights are incredibly valuable. In each episode, she covers a different topic related to child development. She provides practical tips and strategies for supporting children's growth and development. I appreciate the wide range of topics and their relevance to today's families. The episodes are relatively short, typically around 20-30 minutes long, which makes them easy to listen to, even for busy parents and caregivers. Ann’s delivery is also engaging and easy to follow, essential for a topic that can sometimes be dense and technical. I highly recommend Nurtured Noggins with Ann McKitrick to anyone who works with or cares for young children or works with families. It is an excellent resource for gaining insights and strategies for supporting children's development. Ann’s expertise and engaging delivery make it a pleasure to listen to.
