The Perry and Shawna Podcast: Real life conversations reminding you that you’re Abba’s child and that you’re blessed to be a blessing and loved to share Jesus’ love.

Americans Are Hungry For God’s Word!

Americans Are Hungry For God’s Word!

Americans Are Hungry For God’s Word!

How do we know? The research tells us so.

Dr. John Plake is a researcher with a pastor’s heart.  As the Chief Program Officer at American Bible Society he joins us to share data from first chapter of their 14th Annual State of the Bible report.

He shares that Americans are interested in what the Bible has to say, especially our young adults. Dr. Plake says, “Last year, 50% of Gen Z adults (ages 18-27) agreed that the message of the Bible has transformed their lives. This year, that number rose to 54%. If this trend continues, we have good reason for hope.”

Then, when you share your faith it’s OK to say, “You know what, I don’t have the answer to that. But I’ll find out and get back with you!” Perry had to do this the other day in a conversation with his Muslim friend and it was so humbling cause he wanted to have an answer!

“What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near?”– Laura Story. Pain takes us deep into relationship with God. And Perry and Shawna talk about how they wrestle to surrender to the way of the cross.

Last, serving, at times, can feel like a box we need to check off our Christian to-do list. But that’s not how Jesus approached it. Serving wasn’t something he did, it’s who He is. What would it take for you and me to love and serve others like Jesus?

A Lie Believed Will Effect You As If It Were True

A Lie Believed Will Effect You As If It Were True

Underneath every sin is a lie that we have believed. Whether it’s believing “It’ll never be enough”, “No one will love me if I don’t perform”, “I’m all alone” or whatever lie you have believed, that lie is impacting your behavior, your relationships, your life!

How do we uncover the lies?

How do we know what’s true?

David Doerner, Lead Pastor at Frontline Church, is with us to not only answer those questions but to remind us of the lifegiving truth that God is with us, He loves us, and He provides everything we need.

Tough Bible Questions – Compelling Answers

Tough Bible Questions – Compelling Answers

Sometimes the truth can be hard to find. We live in an age when it only takes a few seconds to look up anything we want to know. But how reliable are the answers we get?

    S. Michael Houdman and GotQuestions.org have cut through the confusion, answering even the hardest of questions with clarity, grace and love for more than two decades.

It was through his own questions being answered that Shea came to give his life to Jesus and that’s why he is so passionate about answering your questions with the biblical truth we need to better understand God, ourselves, and the world we live in.

Shea joins us to talk about his new book The 100 Most Asked Questions About God and the Bible.

Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus in the Midst of Broken Dreams

Even in the hardest things, we can learn to fix our eyes on the God who brings us out of the dark night.

Even in the hardest things, we can learn to fix our eyes on the God who brings us out of the dark night.

Broken Dreams. Discouragement. Grief. Kat Shultis has been there. In My Lowest For His Highest, Kat shares with honesty and depth about walking through valleys and days of wilderness.

Kat helps you delve into the heart of our heavenly Father when you find yourself in a story that’s not what you’d hoped it to be.

Also, Shawna, Perry & Ben respond to Masters winner, Scottie Scheffler’s comments on the pressure to win he was feeling on Sunday morning of the Masters. And the wisdom his buddies shared with him that helped reset his heart for the day.

Last, it would take 200,000 years at the speed of light to cross just our Milky Way Galaxy and there are billions of galaxies! And yet the God who created them all knows and loves you!

I Know It in My Head, But I Can’t Get It in My Heart

I Know It in My Head, But I Can’t Get It in My Heart

As Jesus followers we experience significant gaps between what we believe about God and what we encounter from God. We believe God loves us, but we struggle to experience it.

We believe God is with us, but we struggle to see it. We thought we’d be further along in our faith by now. Often our best efforts keep us stuck in those gaps.

In The Expectations Gap, pastor and systems theorist Steve Cuss shows us how to notice stuck patterns that keep us trapped and how we can break free to engage God at a deeper and more fulfilling level.

We will always have to mind the gaps, but we can learn  to notice the recurring, predictable patterns that keep us stuck and spinning. Steve offers real-life tools to:

    Quiet the inner critic,
    Wrangle chronic anxiety,
And relax into God’s presence, engaging him in a deeper, more visceral way.

Next, Shawna likens our journey of learning to follow God to that of the Israelites in the wilderness.  She shares a specific way that the Lord led her recently.

Perry had a blow up in trying to share his faith on Sunday. It was a crash and burn, but he learned from it, and what he learned is so obvious!

Last, Shawna shares that in many ways, we don’t know how to be loved.  We need to learn to be loved by God. And it will take a lifetime to learn it.

    Bless & Release

    Bless & Release

Parenting is hard. In every season. We do what we can to set up the best possible future for our kids. We want them to have everything they need, knowing full well that we fall short of that. We have a front row seat to their bad decisions and can see that it leads to nowhere good.

Steve Norman of Winning at Home joins us to talk about what we can learn from the Bible about parenting adult kids today.

He says our job is to “bless and release.”

Part of blessing them is owning our own mistakes that have impacted their lives. In doing so we redirect them from making the same mistakes in theirs.

In every circumstance and in every season we can be sure of this truth: God is working in the hearts and lives of our kids.
