Phil & Tim Talk About Stuff is a fun topical talk show. Both the hosts have a great rapport with each other and their conversation is so casual that it draws you in and makes you feel like you are on a couch adjacent to them, desperately waiting your turn to share your opinions. Their first episode (albeit long) was a solid outing.
A few points of critique:
1) The main way I feel they could improve their show is by shortening it a little. Four hour episodes about a 2 hour movie can become a bit tedious (as they stated in their first episode). Maybe rather than doing a play-by-play of every scene, they could compile a list of discussion topcis or story beats they want to dissect and go from there.
2) A little bit better sound mixing. This one is a little technical and I think they will get it down as they go along, but compressing and mixing the different audio levels so that they can be about the same decible will help. I almost had a heart attack when the main discussion ended and the theme music suddenly blared through my car speakers because I had to have the volume turned up so high to hear the discussion. As I said, this is a technical issue that can be fixed pretty easily and will come naturally with experience.
3) A normal posting schedule. This show seems geared specifically towards nerd-culture movies. They've already hinted at future Black Panther and Infinity War episodes. However, the key to a podcast is a consistent posting schedule. The months between major movie releases may be a barren landscape, so I hope they find "filler" episodes between those. These could be other nerd culture discussions: comics, TV, art, RPGs, videogames, etc. Or they could even shake up the regular discussion format, but I feel that would be untrue to the show's focus.
Overall, a great show. I'm very excited to be a subscriber and to watch it grow. Both hosts have voices and dispositions made for podcasts. You guys keep it up!
