Everywhere around us are echoes of the past. Those echoes define the boundaries of states and countries, how we pray and how we fight. They determine what money we spend and how we earn it at work, what language we speak and how we raise our children. From Wondery, host Patrick Wyman, PhD (“Fall Of Rome”) helps us understand our world and how it got to be the way it is. Listen to Tides of History on the Wondery App or wherever you get your podcasts. You can listen to bonus episodes available exclusively and ad-free on Wondery+. Fall or Rome and Tides. Of History.
2天前
Accessible history - presented in understandable narrative form that tells the story, or several versions of the event with color commentary on the odds of the several versions. The stories are woven together so that connections become evident. Amazing use of visuals. And tells the stories using characters to illustrate the story. And brings in recent fact sets such as climate change with associated pandemics, famines, population declines, and deterioration of economic, civic, religious, educational, and cultural roles of the cities, without which the cities of the west sputtered and returned to its unconnected state.
Exactly what I was looking for!

I’ve been listening to Tides for a couple years, and listened to Patrick’s Rome pod before. I don’t know how I’ve never left a review before! I love his presentation and casual manner, and the depth of research done into the periods and topics.
Consistently inaccurate when it comes to ancient levant

Used to be a great podcast but the content has become increasingly pro-Islamist and ahistorical when it comes to the ancient levant. Refers to Cananites as Palestinians in a blatant political bias.
You’re doin too much

I love the pod. Well spoken, interesting and informative. That being said, “Alexander liked to fight, full stop.” That threw me. Way skidbidi. Cruegy. You lookin like an op on that Ohio toilet rizz. Be sigma. Betas pander. You are better than that sir. This comment is placed in jest, cap.
