Authoritarian "Democracy" and the New York Democratic Primary Revolutions Per Minute - Radio from the New York City Democratic Socialists of America

    • News

Today is the Democratic Party Primary here in the greatest city in the world in the so-called beacon of democracy. While here at Revolutions Per Minute, we absolutely encourage all our listeners to head out to the polls and vote for the candidates who you believe best support the interests of working class people, we also do not entertain any illusions about who rules this country and what they are capable of in order to protect their wealth and power.

We have been living through one of the largest uprisings in American history as rapidly deteriorating material conditions have fully exposed whose lives matter to capital and the state. The struggle for black lives has demonstrated the immense courage of those who put themselves on the line for our collective liberation while it has revealed the tyrannical brutality of the ruling class and their sycophants.

Today we’re joined by Naz Ahmad to discuss the arrests of Black Lives Matter protesters Urooj Rahman and Colinford Mattis, who are being threatened with live sentences for the crime of solidarity. We’ll discuss how this case represents a further escalation in the United States government descent into authoritarian repression of dissent. Throughout the episode we’ll also give updates from the streets on get out the vote efforts throughout the city.
