Responding to a resurgence in gender-based violence and deaths in Australia, the National Cabinet has committed almost A$1 billion to a range of strategies.
Tackling “online harms” was among the new commitments, including the introduction of a pilot program to explore the use of age-checking technologies to restrict children’s access to inappropriate material online.’

Appearing before the Yoorrook Justice Commission, the Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos acknowledged royalties agreements were intentionally legislated and designed to effectively exclude Aboriginal people from their share of more than $1.5 billion in land use revenue.

The Victorian Treaty Minister has told a truth-telling hearing the state will thrive in the future if it can come to terms with the truth of the unfinished business of colonisation.
Appearing before the Yoorrook Justice Commission on Thursday, Minister Natalie Hutchins faced a series of questions by the commissioners about the rejection and delays of several recommendations from the interim Yoorrook report.
The commission made 46 recommendations after speaking to 84 witnesses – many of them victims or direct descendants of victims, of the stolen generation. The government took 210 days to respond before accepting only four of the recommendations in full, and a further 24 in principle.

The Victorian Premier has told the historic truth-telling inquiry in Naarm she is prepared to apologise to First Nations people for the injustices suffered due to government policies.
Appearing at the Yoorrook Justice Hearings into land injustices on Monday, Jacinta Allan became the first government leader to appear in front of an Indigenous truth-telling commission in Australia.
In a witness statement tendered to the commission, Ms Allan said she was prepared to apologise on behalf of the state at the conclusion of the inquiry.
“I am prepared to make a formal apology at an appropriate time in the future following the
conclusion of the Commission’s truth and fact-finding mandate,” she said.

A court has been asked to define what a woman is as a landmark gender identity discrimination case comes to a close in front of a packed gallery of trans and women’s rights campaigners in Sydney.
Roxanne Tickle, a transgender woman from regional New South Wales, is suing the women-only social media platform Giggle for Girls and its CEO, Sall Grover, for alleged unlawful discrimination after being blocked from using the networking app.
On Thursday, the federal court heard “this case is the ‘What is a woman?’ case” as closing arguments were made in the trial – the first time a case of alleged gender identity discrimination has been heard by the federal court.
