She discusses the challenges faced by adaptive athletes and the importance of accessibility in fitness spaces. Anna also talks about her experience as an NCAA athlete and her upcoming participation in the Adaptive CrossFit Games. She emphasizes the need for understanding and support for individuals with disabilities. Anna discusses her experience with dystonia and how it affects her hip flexors. She explains that dystonia is an overactivation of signals from the brain to the muscles, causing involuntary muscle contractions. Anna takes medications that reduce electrical activity in the brain to manage her symptoms. She also talks about the challenges of competing in multi-day events like the CrossFit Games and the importance of rest and recovery. Episode 16: Overcoming Disappointment

Disappointment is a universal emotion that can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, or financial status. In the context of sports, disappointment often arises when athletes fail to achieve their goals, such as making it to the Olympics. Coping with disappointment requires acknowledging and accepting emotions, shifting focus to what can be controlled, and visualizing success. Support from teammates, coaches, and family is crucial in helping athletes bounce back. It's important to remember that disappointment does not define one's worth, and setbacks can be turned into opportunities for growth.

    Episode 15: Setting realistic goals

    Episode 15: Setting realistic goals

Welcome back to the podcast. This week I want to discuss setting realistic goals. So often people find themselves setting goals and later realizing they didn't accomplish those goals. Why does this happen? Are people jusy lazy? I don't think that's the answer. More often than not folks don't quite understand how much work needs to go into success. Maybe they don't know where to start.
Today I am going to outline the S.M.A.R.T. rule and hopefully it provides clarity on how to find success.

Episode 14: Mastering the basic skills.

Episode 14: Mastering the basic skills.

    Welcome back my people!
Did you hear about the return of one Gabby Douglas? She returned to competition this past weekend. Here is a video of her FLOOR ROUTINE from the American Classic where she qualified to the US Championships. Not too shabby for taking 7 years off!
Today we are going to talk about mastering basic skills. Why is this important? I'm glad you asked. Today I will answer all those questions and hopefully give you both insight as an athlete and possibly how to help your child why it is so important to master the easy stuff before they can master the more difficult stuff.
Here is the link to the HOLLOW BODY TRAINING VIDEO I mentioned in the podcast. Remember the hollow body is the building block for so many gymnastics skills you will also find in CrossFit.
