Welcome to Pod Save The Queen - the award-winning royal podcast from the Daily Mirror. The royal family is finding its way in a new era on both sides of the Atlantic. Harry and Meghan's departure - and subsequent frank interview with Oprah Winfrey - and the loss of Prince Philip, the head of the family at 99 are two major challenges. Add to that Prince Andrew being sacked by the Queen and a changing of the guard to the younger generations, as future kings William and Charles, along with their wives Camilla and Kate, take on more of the Queen's duties and engagements - not to mention adapting how everything is done to cope with the pandemic - the royal family is in a time of change. There is joy too, as the Cambridges' children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis grow up both in and out of the public eye, and the Tindalls, Beatrice and Eugenie find their own ways. Expect behind the scenes details, fashion, travel, causes, politics and society, plus interviews with people who can provide a particular insight into your favourite royals, their work and their place in Britain today. “Lively discussions with a wide-ranging appeal. Refreshingly informal, totally unstuffy and a thoroughly modern take on all things royal. And it’s funny too.” - the Press Awards Judges, who named Pod Save The Queen Lifestyle Podcast of the Year. Royals at football, Royals at Commonwealth games... Are we a sport podcast now?!
It's been a very sporty week for the royals! Zoe Forsey and Russell Myers sit down to look back at the Cambridges’ day out at the Commonwealth Games, which was Princess Charlotte's first official engagement without her big brother George. Proud mum Kate also revealed her daughter’s favourite sport and Charlotte got to meet some exciting stars. She also sent a special good luck message to England’s Lionesses ahead of their Euro 2022 Final - and Prince William couldn't hide his excitement when the Ladies finally brought football home! We also look ahead to the royals’ summer and what’s happening with the Cambridge family's move to Windsor.
Key revelations from new Royal book, Revenge
Zoe Forsey is joined by the Mirror’s royal writer, Jennifer Newton, to discuss the latest book sending shockwaves through the royal family - Tom Bower’s Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War between the Windsors. The biographer makes a series of claims about Meghan Markle, Prince Harry and the rest of The Firm, including that there were rows at the Queen’s Jubilee, a Strictly Come Dancing pitch and a bizarre accusation against Victoria Bekham.
Queen's visit, Duchess of Cornwall goes to Cornwall and Harry makes a speech
Zoe Forsey and Russell Myers sit down to chat about Camilla’s low-key 75th birthday, the Queen’s surprise outing and a very, very hot royal trip to Cornwall. We also ponder over the mysterious Prince Andrew photo which a BBC employee says will rock the Royal Family if it’s ever made public. Prince Harry gave a speech at the UN this week and there is a new Meghan Markle book hitting the shelves, which includes a number of claims including that she “threw tea in the air”.
Queen honours NHS, Kate hands out trophy and Camilla's 75th birthday
The royals have been making the most of the UK heatwave this week - and there was a very exciting day out for Prince George! Zoe Forsey and Russell Myers sit down in their very, very hot living rooms to chat about the Queen’s most recent outing, which saw her hand the St George’s Cross to the entire NHS. Kate was back at Wimbledon in her role as Patron, and she took Prince William and Prince George along for the Men’s Final. Several of the royals attended a (sort of) royal wedding in Gloucestershire and we look ahead to Camilla’s 75th birthday this weekend.
Cambridge's visit Wimbledon, Charles goes to Wales and Queen surprises dog walkers
It felt like a very summery week this week, with the royals making the most of the sunshine at a series of fun engagements. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were at Wimbledon while Prince Charles and Camilla are enjoying a three-day trip to Wales. We talk about Kate’s latest photography commission, snapping some beautiful photos of her mother-in-law for a very special edition of Country Life magazine. Meanwhile the Queen gave a group of dog walkers the shock of their lives when she casually drove past them in Sandringham and Princess Beatrice suffered a very embarrassing moment at Glastonbury.
Royal finances, missing findings and fortieth birthdays
The Sovereign Grant Report was published this week and after hours and hours of trawling through the facts and figures, Zoe Forsey and Russell Myers sit down to discuss the headline findings - including the £17million, or 17%, rise in royal spending from last year. There is also a cost breakdown of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s disastrous Caribbean tour and it’s revealed that Prince Charles’ helicopter trips cost a staggering £15,000 a time. We discuss the Palace’s decision not to publish any findings from the investigation into bullying claims against Meghan Markle, the Queen’s Holyrood Week outings and Prince Charles’s £2.6million of charity cash stuffed in carrier bags. Russell fills us in on his trip to Rwanda with Charles and Camilla and we discuss Meghan’s comments on the Roe V Wade ruling.
Guest on Tom Bower’s Revenge
Oh. My. Gosh. Your guest on July 28, 2022…yep, yeah, yep, yeah, and so on. You can’t edit that out? I screamed at the top of my lungs while listening because it happened throughout the entire podcast and was nails on a chalkboard.
The sound quality isn’t great either in this podcast.
Had to turn it off
Tried listening to the Tom Bower episode, but the guest host had to say “yeah” literally every two seconds. She even had to interject her “yeah” while the host was speaking. It drove me so crazy I had to turn it off and listen to something else.
Used to love this podcast, not now
I like my Royal news like I like my other news, unbiased and factual, little anecdotes with some fun banter is ok too, but I don’t care to know the hosts opinions for or against any Royal members. For some reason this podcast has become very pro-Sussex, for whom I’m neither for or against, we’ve seen this play out before in history and one takes it with a grain of salt. However, I’m not not excited to see new episodes pop up anymore. The slope was becoming slippery when Zoe began in-depth fashion episodes, which were extremely boring, and now it’s become a Sussex promoting vehicle. Not sure what happened or why, but I’m no longer interested.
