Launch Lab / Lesson 3 - Get Organized + equipment, setting up your podcasting systems
In this lesson, we'll talk about how to get organized, and some basic recording and editing software so you can start putting this roadmap into action!
Before we get started, I always want you to check in with what's happening in your brain. Starting a podcast is no different than anything else we're doing, especially when there's a learning curve or we're doing something new.
Doubts will come up and this is how I help my clients -- we need to figure out what's up with your podcasting brain so you don't try recording that intro for the 20th time, or fidegting with the mic sound.
This podcasting thing is YOUR wild west. So let's go create it!
In the last Lesson, I asked you 10 questions. These questions become the foundation for your own personalized podcast success roadmap, which makes the rest easy becuase you are showing up from a place that feels fun, good, and in alignment with your vision for your podcast which you're been building since we started this Workshop.
Here’s a peek at what you’ll learn in this lesson:

HEY WANT TO GET COACHED FOR FREE?
I'm doing something amazing that's really exploding! I'm offering 3 weeks of free podcast coaching. You come ready to work on your podcast. We flesh out your roadmap, then you hit the ground running.
As your coach, I got your back in a way that you won't find with other podcast coaches. I'm a certified life coach and I have 8 years of podcasting expertise, so when you are struggling with recording that intro for the 20th time, I'll help you work through the obstacle thoughts that keep you stuck on repeat.
Once your podcast brain is in alignment with your beautiful vision, you are ready to start working your roadmap ... and it's cruise control the rest of the way. Sounds dreamy, right?
Then I'll set up up with free coaching. All you need to do is reach out to me by going to email@example.com and hit me up with a one-liner that says "podcast coaching please!"
You get to do whatever you f*ing want with your podcast
Don’t let perfect be your downfall. Show up bad. Show up messy. Show up as you. Just show up. You don't need to be fancy.
I started with nothing but my phone back in 2014 and within a month I had a New York Times best selling author ask to be a guest on my show. Proves the music the intro, the polish means nothing if there’s nothing but fluff in the middle.
Sometimes showing up is the ONLY insurance you need. You don't have to move mountains ... it doesn't have to be THE BEST every time.
The first person who decided to record into a microphone and figured out how to put out to the world was creating a Wild West. That was not that long ago. About a decade ... at most 15 years ago. Seriously. Your podcast. YOUR way.
When I get behind the microphone I ask myself: “what's the solution that allows me to show up in a way that helps me to cherish my listeners, my clients, make myself a better coach ... and honor this relationship I have with my podcast?”
There's gonna come a time when you're doing your podcast and you’re like, “ugh, the honeymoon is over. It’s just it's not fun, the sex isn't that great anymore and they just don't look so good to me these days.”
Our pods can kinda be the same... but like any relationship it’s about cultivating it, mindfully and intentionally nurturing it, and looking for fun and new ways to spice things up.
You get to create what you want with your podcast, and do it in a way that you want to. Not based on a thing someone said “hey this works. I’ll make it a rule and tell everyone about it because I’m getting 10,000 downloads.”
You can’t take someone’s thought and get the result of 10,000 downloads if you feel like ass every time you record. Downloads mean zero if you have no engagement. Downloads don’t equal money in the bank. Your belief is what puts the money in the bank.
Podcasting can be your muse … an art project ... a side gig, like playing in the sandbox. It's all yours. You get to do whatever the heck you want.
And hey ... if you want some FREE podcast coaching, I'm offering a new way to help and it's seriously exploding. I'm filling spots pretty quickly and I opening up a new round every 2-3 weeks, sooo ... email me at: firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll let you know if I have spots opening up.
Here's what Jen had to say about her experience: "As someone who just finished 3 weeks of coaching, I can attest that it's worth every minute … and I'll will be a paying customer when I am starting my podcast launch because I now know how Kara coaches. I have already developed a rapport with her and she's helped me start to wrap my head around my ability to do this, and she's pretty badass! Can't recommend it enough!!!
Podcast Launch Lab / Lesson 2: Podcasting Success Blueprint
Now that you have the template and did some research in the last lesson, and you’re excited about what’s possible, now we'll build your Podcast Success Blueprint
We take this Roadmap and align it to the way you like to do things … and do it in a fluid way that keeps you showing from a place that feels good.
When you plan in this way, it honors your vision, the content you want to create, the launch details, because this is a process that takes time and having the space to allow for fun, ease and creativity is essential, and doing in a way that you are aligned to your vision so you are empowered to show up and do the work with the firm belief that you are setting the stage for a successful podcast.
One final note ... you're on a journey. Creating a podcast is playing the long game. You are doing this because you love this medium and look forward to sharing your coaching message in this way, so take your time!
Podcast Launch Lab / Lesson 1: How to Research + Brainstorm Your Unique Podcast Concept Step-by-Step
In this episode, we’re driving in to the first Podcast Launch Lab lesson where I guide you step-by-step through starting, creating and easily launching a successful podcast.
In this first lesson, you'll learn how to be a detective and make Apple Podcasts (formerly called iTunes) and Google your BFFs to infuse some creative juice to make your podcast standout from the crowd.
My clients who have done this with an open mind, always tell me how eye-opening, fun and inspiring it was.

Time to roll up your sleeves ... LET'S DO THIS.
Launch Lab Workshop / Getting Started: How to Keep the Fun in Podcasting
Before we get started with the Podcast Launch Lab, this episode will help you set the stage to create a podcast to fall in love with ... a passion project that you're committed to no matter how long it takes to get the traction you want.
WHY do you want to start a podcast? Are you doing it because it's something you GET to do, not HAVE to do?
Podcasts aren't created because it would be a "cool thing for business," because very quickly it can turn into something NOT cool if you don't have excitement first.
I see many new podcasting enthusiasts enter this space with the "chicken before the egg" mentality. They get the equipment, then get caught up in the tools, but forget to figure out if this "podcasting thing" is even something they like.
Why downloads mean nothing if you're not getting engagement How to create meaningful content that creates meaningful connections and impact The thing you cannot measure through downloads Successful podcasters play the long game no matter how long it takes to get tractionDoing what lights you up will light up your audienceHow to avoid getting in the podfading danger zoneIt is about a love affair ... a passion project. A big compelling reason. Then you play the long game. You just show up because you freaking love it.
The ONLY Thing You Need to Create a Podcast
TO HAVE FUN! ... to share your quirkiness, your messiness, your every day person-ness! Embrace your inner peacock. When you have fun every step of the way, you get to make this your passion project, and you get to show up and be the coach you want to be right now!
A podcast is not the thing you "should" do because you heard someone who is successful say you should.
That will ensure your podfadery. (AKA - your podcast fades away)
You start with your passion and your message.
I talk to so many of you sharing your excitement about what your vision is, your message, and the belief that you can in fact move minds with your message ... and doing it all behind your microphone.
Then, self-sabotage creeps in.
You sit with your topic list, not knowing where to start, or ... you get lost in thinking you need to get all kinds of crazy equipment, editing software, and pick the RIGHT Name.
You get lost in the details, and then believe the thought ... "I'm not good enough, I don't know enough. So you stall, sabotage. Procrastinate, convince yourself you need more self-coaching, and you need to journal it out.
Start with the self-sabotaging thoughts, knowing they are the default when we start something that is unknown, and just start where you are, embracing your messy and press the button. Then excitement grows.
Get behind the mic anyway.
Have a love-affair with the spoken word.
Be like the child at play who loses themself in the playing.
Be you- be the peacock. Unfurl your beautiful feathers.
Now go be a podcaster.
In the next episode, I'm kicking off my Podcast Launch Lab and I'll be introducing you to 3 easy steps to launch your podcast and move mountains with your microphone.
