Erik Becker (VVD): the EU parliament could use a few more betas

To innovate Brussels is the place to be, rather than the political arena in The Hague. Erik Becker (VVD) has a background in engineering, he has an education and experience in technology. Erik states that the EU parliament could use a few more betas. Not all political choices from past have been the wisest to really make an impact. Regulations are driven too much by incidents. the way rules are made needs to change and need to thought trough. By anyhow, a fast track for urgent innovation, for instance is for defence is urgently needed

Of course we cannot avoid to connect to developments in The Hague. How is the position of the VVD in the liberal parties from other countries? How does the European team has just the lobby for the direction taken by the new Dutch cabinet.

Bram Kamp (Volt): EU Brussels is more about content rather than about show

Bram Kamp runs for seat in the European Parliament. In
Brussels, he will feel at home, Bram expects: "Brussels is more about content rather than about show." Europe sees the importance of technology and innovation but also sees a need to safeguard a strong position.

Volt is a European political party. Can democracy in Europe still work with 27 countries, each of which has a veto right? Bram Kamp nonetheless sees a key role for Europe in combatting climate change, in improving security throughout the region. Every Dutch citizen gains a value of 5000 euro from being in various European cooperations.

Patrick Rutten, RoB ED 11 guest thinks curiosity is a highly undervalued leadership skill, which is essential to creating highly innovative workplaces. Patrick has been described as an 'organisational rebel', able to rewire organizations towards radical transformation using insights from behavioral and organizational sciences and a broad set of experiences. In this podcast, Ralu and Patrick explore the unique ingredients that contribute to creating highly effective, innovative work environments, particularly in Eindhoven—a tech hub renowned for its success and magnetic appeal to international talent.

How do organisations in the Brainport area manage to continue being innovative?

Which ingredients does an organisation need to be able to create highly effective innovative work environments?

Tune in RoB Ed 11, to hear more and learn how you might help your organisation become more innovative and successful.

Prof. Oded Raz (TU Eindhoven): What to teach engineering students when AI seems to solve all problems?

Prof. Oded Raz (TU Eindhoven): What to teach engineering students when AI seems to solve all problems?

Should we be scared about a future  generation of engineers who know more about how to use AI than about their technical field? Do we need to know about the details of processing inside micro-electronic IC’s to help create better smart phone, or to design an autonomous car? Haven’t we continuously raised the level of abstraction at which we look into systems?

Radio 4 Brainport hosts Jean-Paul Linnartz and Parag Gupta debate the role of novel technology in education with Prof. Oded Raz of Eindhoven University of Technology. Initially we invited this award-winning TU/e teacher Oded Raz for his view on the use of artificial intelligence in education. Oded is not only a columnist  for the Eindhoven University of Technology opinion magazine Cursus, he also is thought leader on education in his own series of podcasts and a vocal member of electrical engineering teaching staff. He has a right to speak up: student highly appreciate his style and his approach to educating.

Yet, instead of diving straight into the role of AI in education, for better or for worse, Oded reveals that he is sceptical about modern aids such as powerpoint. He recently rediscovered how students learn more if a teacher develops the thoughts, the math, the ideas step by step, live on the board. So, in this podcast we start off by looking in more detail into how our brain absorbs knowledge. An essential part of mastering a topic is to be able to actively use the theory, and apply it both in routine and in novel ways. Making homework assignments really serves a purpose. Letting AI do homework for you, may come with unpleasant surprises during the exam.
