He earned his first degree from the University of Leeds (School of Geography) and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham, with a thesis titled “Individual Differences and the Design of Instructional Materials,” which he completed part-time while working for British Gas plc from 1987 to 1994. Prof. Sadler-Smith's primary research interests include intuition in decision-making and hubris in leadership. His work has been published in numerous CABS-listed journals, including the Academy of Management Learning and Education, British Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, and Human Relations, among others. He has also contributed to professional publications such as Forbes (Korea) and People Management, as well as mainstream media outlets like The Times and The Observer. His latest book, Intuition in Business, was published by Oxford University Press in 2023. Prof. Sadler-Smith is the author of several other significant works, including Human Resource Development: From Theory into Practice (SAGE, 2022), Hubristic Leadership (SAGE, 2019), Learning and Development for Managers (Blackwell, 2006), Inside Intuition (Routledge, 2008), and The Intuitive Mind (John Wiley and Sons, 2010). The latter has been translated into Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian and was shortlisted for the Chartered Management Institute's ‘Management Book of the Year’ award in 2010. Prof. Sadler-Smith has contributed invited chapters to various handbooks, most recently serving as section editor for the Springer Handbook of Virtue Ethics in Business and Management.
