Pushing Leaves Towards the Sun
Pushing Leaves Towards the Sun Billy and Lindy wrestle with Oso's untimely motorcycle death—through music. The lyrics for 12 original companion songs are developed within the story. So, this novel rocks—literally. Welcome to my world of musical fiction—a new genre of literature. Cheers, Mark L Berry When Oso gets yanked off his motorcycle and killed by a closed parking lot chain, Billy feels guilty for having taught him to hop curbs and shortcut traffic lights. Billy’s survivor’s guilt drags him down a spiral of excessive alcohol, one-night stands, body painting, and reckless driving. He’s now all too aware that life is short—play hard. Meanwhile, Oso’s former girlfriend Lindy pours her grief into her new folk-rock album as she struggles with whether she can ever let herself love again. Can she turn this personal tragedy into something meaningful through her music? Pushing Leaves Towards the Sun explores survivor’s guilt and grief through reckless adventure, a dozen original songs, and fiction. When you’ve lost someone you love, there are no easy answers. Know that you’re not alone in your struggle. Billy and Lindy are here. Only segments of the companion songs are used, when appropriate, within this podcast. The full versions of all original songs can be heard on my website: http://marklberry.com/pushingleaves/ This novel is intended for adults. It includes some graphic language, sexual situations, and questionable behavior. Recovery from intense loss is a rough road—100 miles-per-hour on two wheels with no regard for oncoming traffic, as an example.
Outstanding; Very Moving

Mr. Berry's book was my first venture into the audio realm. I was amazed by the detail and effort that comprised this moving story. The music, of course, only added to the content. There are many ways to convey an experience-- the music and audio truly brought this book off the proverbial pages. Well done!

Really great story

I really loved this story. I kept playing episode after episode until the end. However, there are two reasons why I did not give 5 stars. The first reason is the narration, I felt like all of the narrators lacked emotion. The second reason is the music. I did not enjoy any of it. I listen to a huge variety of music so I'm not a musical snob or anything. The songs were just very, very corny.

I've listened to quite a few books on tape over the years, but I found Mark's approach new and refreshing. Initially, when I first sat down to listen, I found the whole concept kind of strange. Unfortunately those feelings were a distraction, at first making it hard for me to follow the story. By the second chapter, things seemed to take-off. Mark's writing skill became most evident to me in chapter two. The writing and acting, along with the music, came together for me here. I began to understand and appreciate the whole genre. One thing I liked was that the story was believable; as a result, I became part of it. I was sitting in a bar enjoying a cold beer while listening to a guy on the stool next to me ramble on. I liked hearing the songs being used to support both the narrative and the dialog. The sound effects only added to the realism. The mix proved truly inseparable. The story was entertaining and the experience fun. The presentation is almost like having someone read a story from a book, while at the same time, other parts of the tale are being played out on a stage nearby. If you take the time to listen, be prepared, because you will quite unexpectedly find yourself hooked.
