Rachel Vecchitto

Rachel is a Connecticut native who studied Computer Science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before moving to New York City. Since then she has done a variety of work including a 4 year stint at Etsy as a senior software developer. Rachel recently accepted an offer to work at Gnip here in Boulder, so that is one of the things that we spoke with her about.

“I like people who are out doing interesting things and not letting preconceptions about what they should or shouldn’t be doing determine what they are actually doing. They see things that are interesting, they see an opportunity, and they just do it.”

Rachel admires many people in the Boulder community. One person that she mentioned is her colleague at Gnip, Shannon McCoy. Jonathan Woodard was referred to for the second interview in a row and we finally have an excuse to interview Kent Riggs since he was acknowledged this week.

“Shannon managed to get herself hired by Gnip, probably over a year ago, and is just killing it now. Kent is just everywhere, he’s got so much stuff going on.”

We discussed women in tech and Rachel made some interesting points that are often overlooked.

“There are so many things about it that are so good, especially if you want to have a family, because the schedule can be really flexible. You can work from home. It really lends itself to doing consulting and freelance part-time if you want to.”
