The Mona Lisa Vanishes
In 1911, a man by the name of Vincenzo Peruggia hid in the Louvre after closing. He went into a gallery, took a small Renaissance portrait off the wall and the following morning, he walked out with it under his cloak. That theft brought The Mona Lisa out of the museum and into pop culture. This week as it is back to school season, we thought it might be fun to cover a great historical heist and a new middle grade non fiction book telling the story that is stranger than fiction.
We had a special guest this week as Nicholas Day, author of The Mona Lisa Vanishes participated in a rapid fire "Fact or Fake" segment telling us some fun facts and dispelling myths about the most famous painting in the world.
