Reclaiming Our Canon
Dr. Anika Prather herself, over many years, has engaged the fire and light that the classics have brought to African American throughout the history of America. She is uniquely gifted and trained to help us reclaim the canon that has been a source of liberty and humanity. As a scholar of the black intellectual tradition, she passionately argues for bringing the best that has been thought and said to African Americans and all Americans.

While I have enjoyed the first three episodes, learning how important W.E.B. DuBois was for Anika Prather to see that the Western Canon belongs to everyone and leads to liberty, as well as anticipating beginning a DuBois reading group at my inner-city public school, when I started episode 4, the 4th episode of Classical Crossroads came out. I thought the two episodes 4 might be swapped, but no; the correct episode 4 for CC is on CC. I look forward to continuing to listen when this issue is fixed.

This white male of European heritage celebrates a podcast that features the winsome and wise insights of Anika Prather, a black female of African heritage. Against the modern racial boundary that tribalizes and trivializes human beings, Dr. Prather and I are united by the merits of classical education, the meaning of Christianity, and the magic of the arts, hence the welcoming pronoun of “our” in the title of her podcast: “Reclaiming Our Canon.” You will be edified by Dr. Prather’s soulfulness and humanity!
