    Using Green Grants to Support Student Climate Action Abroad

    In this episode, co-host Amy Marcus speaks with an administrator and three students about Temple University’s Global Green Grants program, which funds student climate action and research projects while studying abroad. Sarah Short Hutyra, the Assistant Director for Institutional Relations at Temple University Education Abroad & Overseas Campuses, explains how the program is managed. After her conversation with Sarah, Amy speaks with the following students who participated in the program: Katie Chin, student at Thomas Jefferson University Julie Kleaver, FAO Schwarz Fellow with Audubon Mid-Atlantic Ezekiel Cartwright, student at Temple University Katie, Julie, and Ezekiel share about their experiences with the program while studying in Italy and Japan. Their projects explored topics including sustainable food systems, single-use plastics education, and sports equipment waste and access. In these interviews, you’ll learn more about the program, how it works, some challenges faced along the way, and even advice for both staff looking to run similar programs and students looking to take climate action while studying abroad.
