This pod brought up things I didn’t even know I’d pushed down. The conversations are deep and dark but also uplifting and restorative. Also pretty of laughs. 5+ stars.

My Dobson story is a bit unique and my parents were only nominally religious and didn’t really play much of a role early on in my life in my religious development. They end up coming out of my traumatic experiences looking quite good, but the one thing they did wrong (which they have both since apologized to me for in both word and deed) is outsourcing all of that to a private Christian school that employed James Dobson and Dobson-adjacent material heavily in the curriculum. When you’re a neurodiverget and queer kid in this environment, it leaves a lot of damage in its wake. For far too long, I thought I was the only one. They were really good at silencing dissent and gaslighting you to make you feel like you were the problem. So it is so cathartic that Stephanie is doing this work and also centering the voices of those who are neurodivergent and queer. From one strong-willed child to another, thank you. 🙏
