I’m a psychiatrist and mom and I love this podcast

Janet’s RIE approach resonates with me and I can’t thank her enough for the change in perspective I have gained! Her voice is excellent, and she is thoughtful. I am a psychiatrist with training and psychodynamic therapy, and her approach has a psychodynamic sensibility.

Been listening for years, my husband and I have learned so much from Janet and RIE (including via this this podcast ). Janet is love to hear more on older kids (even though you say that’s not your specialty). I enjoyed what you had to say about older kids a few episodes back and it left me wanting more as our oldest is now 10 🤍🤍
THE BEST!

She needs to know her limitations

As a Pediatrician in practice for 20 years, I am always on the lookout for podcasts I can recommend to parents in my practice. I was super concerned but still willing to give this one a chance. My BIG concern was that Ms. Lansbury has no medical or professional training except her own parenting (and uncertified classes) from which she gives advice. I am ALL for parents supporting parents but when it is coming off as “expert” advice and not clarified as an opinion, it truly is worrisome. For example, in her episode about young children who have angry outbursts, she advises a parent of a 3 yo that this child has “bottled up feelings” and this is why they are acting out. She is dismissive of some of the instructive (non-punative) measures the mother has taken. The mother actually used key words in her letter that made me, as a medical practitioner concerned that her child had early signs of a Neurodevelopmental Disorder (e.g. Autism). Frankly Ms. Lansbury may not know her limits and that is where harm can be done. I also am concerned when the end goal is to push a product, such as her own book & classes. So is her podcast really unbiased? Parents I ask that you listen to this with caution. At least with your own doctor, if you disagree with us, you choose not to come back and find someone else. Sometimes we get blinded by the stardom of a person and forget that they may not be qualified for certain things. “Auditorem cave!”
