That's What I'm Tolkien About
Join Mary Clay Watt on her first journey through Lord of the Rings. Each episode is a chapter discussion of the books with fans, featuring mispronounced names, outlandish theories, and praise (or criticism!) for JRR Tolkien.

I deeply enjoy this podcast, with all of my heart. That being said, I want to scream sometimes. That’s probably because I’ve read a lot of old books and learned how to read them (literally. I have taken several classes and they actually worked), and you didn’t because duh, why would you? So if you feel a disturbance in the Force, like a thousand people suddenly cried out and were silenced, it’s because not a thousand people but one book-obsessed fourteen-year-old is cussing you out for a very small and pedantic point you failed to understand. Love you ~Torie from Wisconsin
THIS IS THE SPOILER WARNING THEY DON’T GIVE YOU

I am 4 episodes in and am enjoying Mary Clay Watt as the host, the banter she has with the guests she brings on, and the coverage of the story. BUT, as a first time LotR reader listening to the show as I read along, there are so many spoilers (ranging from seemingly small to seemingly large) already within the first 4 episodes of the podcast. Thus, I have to stop listening so I don’t have the story further spoiled for me reading along and therefore I cannot recommend the podcast for someone in the same situation; however, if you have already read LotR, I can only imagine that it’s a very enjoyable podcast.
OK, if you like Harry Potter

This podcast should be sub-titled something like, “A look at The Lord of the Rings through the lens of Harry Potter.” I enjoyed the latest episodes of “Drunk Middle Earth History” so decided to start from the beginning, but I’m well into The Two Towers episodes and it’s like 30%-50% Potterverse discussion and comparisons. Kind of like comparing a fine wine to a grape juice box, but sure, everyone’s got their preferences. It’s just not what I came for. But I do appreciate being introduced to the Black Nerds Create collective, and look forward to checking out their Tolkien Black Girls podcast.
Love this podcast!

MC does a great job of not only making Tolkien more accessible, but she brings in wonderful guests! So many great people we’ve gotten to meet through this podcast. It’s a total gem!
