Ritchie Beene-Head Cross Country and Track and Field at Alabama State University

Ritchie Beene has been a staple of the Alabama State University Cross Country and Track and Field Program for 23 years, 10 as an assistant and 13 as the head coach of all three programs. During his tenure as assistant coach, he helped lead the cross country and track and field teams to 13 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships and the men’s team to two. He led the women’s cross country team to four championships and three top finishes for the men’s team. Since taking over the reins in 2008, Beene has led the women’s cross country teams to seven SWAC championships, 9 indoor track and field Championships and 8 outdoor SWAC Championships. He has also coached the men to one cross country SWAC championship and two indoor SWAC championship. In this episode we talk about what its like to stay motivated from the top, communication with athletes in regards to training and his start in the sport and profession of coaching.
