Roddy Doyle is one of the most recognisable faces and voices in Irish literature. He was catapulted to success in the late eighties and early nineties with a string of acclaimed novels set in the fictional Barrytown, the first of which, The Commitments, was turned into a successful film and a West End musical. He won the Booker Prize in 1993 for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha.Famous for his unique use of dialogue and rich humour, for many his work perfectly captures the experiences of everyday life. His latest book, a collection of short stories called Life Without Children is out now.
