In this episode, Jessica speaks with Ian Bremmer about the unfolding situation between Russia and Ukraine and where, right now, US intelligence officials estimate there are about 130,000 Russian troops amassed near the border. This comes as world leaders continue to apply diplomatic pressure on Russia in an effort to head off an invasion which some believe could be only days or weeks away.
Ian Bremmer, is the president and founder of Eurasia Group and an expert in identifying and understanding global risk. He says that it’s unlikely Putin would invade ahead of the Winter Olympics and a planned trip to Beijing.
Ian explains what The Ukraine represents to Russia and the West and why it is essential to Vladimir Putin’s larger ambitions
Bremmer is the host of “GZERO World with Ian Bremmer,” a weekly public affairs program on PBS. He is the author of 10 books including the NYT bestseller “Us vs Them: The Failure of Globalism” and teaches at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
