Call Her Daring

These discussions are profound for me. I am older and wanted to be a mother but knew I wouldn’t be a good enough mother. I realize from these discussions, my self knowledge was correct. I grieve not being a mother, but am proud that my decision was correct for me and the children I didn’t birth. On a different note, I am strangely grateful for JDV’s outward contempt toward solo women who aren't mothers. I FEEL the contempt so it’s validating of my experience for it to be expressed so openly. Friends and therapists have dismissed my awareness of the low status of solo women who aren’t mothers. It’s real. Maybe it’s less common on the East and West Coasts, but it in the South, it’s palpable.
