chat chit

Chris

We exist to show that you can have normal conversations about mental health , where we understand how people have come through their experiences and learnt how to manage their mental health. We go off on many a tangent but the purpose is to focus on the things that might help you or where you might be able to relate with someone's experiences. We hope to normalise talking about your mental health whether you are having a good day or a bad day or on a day where you might not be sure how you feel. Chat chit and the website Yormind exist to to try help young people in York and beyond to manage their mental health and direct them towards the support and services that would be best for them. Along the way there is a lot of chatting chit about all topics. Chat chit is produced and edited by York Mind but the views and opinions expressed in the episode or of those being interviewed and the interviewer.                Trigger warning- Mental health and certain topics are covered on the podcast may be triggering so be mindful of this when listening.

What is neurodiversity? how does it differ to personality and what are the things we can do to try understand and embrace our difference? Surviving in the wild with stigma - odd blokes with odd metaphors

We thought the place to start with Surviving in the wild would be first to discuss the issues around the stigma of mental health and why people don't reach out. Firstly you ought to know you can watch all the videos of the project on hour youtube channel Surviving In the wild - YouTube  Stigma then; Why do we feel it? How does it feel? Do people feel it differently? Liam and Ben will be joining me to answer all of these questions. Both cocreation and engagement dabblers, they will be joining me (chris) to spit some facts and obscure metaphors around mental health and reaching out in this fundamentally odd first episode. See the bookmarks below if you want to jump to different sections of the episode. Enjoy.  Minutes; 2 – What is stigma?  7 – What is intersectionality and how stigma impacts people differently? 13 - Self stigma and feeling like a burden  1940 Is mental health talked about now more than ever before? 26 – How do we actually look after our mental health?  3520 – Can we reframe stigma.....no? 3850 – Employment stigma when you are struggling. 4130 – Who did you first reach out to? 46 – Ask twice 53 – What if you aren’t ready to reach out?  58 – Odd blokes with odd metaphors  Give us a review or send us a text about what you would like to see in the podcast Please if you like or have benefitted from the episode then give us a share, review, follow us or rate us on the platform you are listening on. A farewell with my favourite bits of chat chit

After 60 episodes of chat chit where I have had had endless conversations with fantastic people, I (Chris) am leaving York Mind and therefore chat chit. In this episode I have pulled together some of my favorite conversations, some of the weirder conversations and some of my favorite pieces of advice that have been given over the years. Chat chit will still continue just without me as the host aswell as all the other parts of the project. You may also hear me with the mini series of surviving in the wild where we talk about different aspects of mental health with clinicians and proffessionals with lived experience, so tune in there.  A massive thank you to all who have featured on the podcast as it wouldnt have been possible without all those people being so honest, open and genuine about their mental health experiences. Most of all thank you to all of you who have tuned in for a heck of a lot of chit chat. I hope it has helped in one way or another and that you know after listening that whoever you are, you deserve the support and you deserve to get better. I know it doesnt feel like it all the time but it can, you just have to find the thing that works for you, and trust me i'm still working that out too.
