My parents are immigrants from HK/China and moved to the UK when they were teenagers. I was brought up being Chinese at home and English when I was outside of home - it felt confusing at the time as I couldn't find a sense of belonging. But now I am much older, I am proud of my Chinese heritage and I am proud to be British. Heading straight in to his role at Resy and collaborating with some amazing people such as Amanda Nguyen and Susie Bubble who have written articles to share their stories on food and restaurant. Speaking of restaurants, we have a conversation on Somsaa and Ivy Asia, how they misrepresented ESEA (East and Southeast Asian) food and the work that David did to call this out. My favourite part of the show is talking about David's dad who is in a band back in the 80's in Burma called The Wild Ones (check them out on YouTube).     S3 Ep2: Chinese takeaway/restaurant kids - this one's for you!

    I know I always say on all my shows 'this is a very special episode'.  But this time, I REALLY mean it!  It's special for a few reasons: * It was my first live show with an audience * People paid £14.06 for a ticket (thanks guys) * Proceeds were donated to London Chinese Community Centre and the event raised just over £2K. * Two amazing guests, John Li from Dumpling Shack and food writer and Takeaway book author Angela Hui shared a stage with me. * There were raffle prizes (is it even an event if there's no raffle prizes?  Asking for a friend, LOL). Angela, John and I have all been brought up in our parents Chinese takeaway/restaurant and we share stories from behind the counter.  It was heartwarming and personally for me, it felt like therapy.  If only I knew there were more takeaway kids when I was growing up!! This event is part of ESEAHM (East and Southeast Asian Heritage Month).  Thanks to Besean for hosting this for the 2nd year running. A few insta pages to check out!     Hey!!  I'm back with a new season.  In this episode I speak to my fiancé eWan Smith as we  talk about how we met, the adventures that we've had and we probably over share when we talk about the mini break up that we had a few years ago.  I also asked him if he has yellow fever (spoiler alert, he doesn't) but it did boost a conversation on how yellow fever is dangerous on ESEA women.     🧧Happy Lunar New Year to everyone.  In this episode I speak to Wai Kuen from Pak Mei Lo Hau Martial Arts Association.  I have been following these guys since I started podcasting and I've been so fascinated in lion dancing and the story of why it's used during Chinese celebrations.  For people who know me, you will know that I have a billion questions - and I had a billion questions on this topic.  So thank goodness Wai Kuen was here to answer them all.     I've gone solo on this one.  In this episode, I talk about some achievements which was made this year including the story 'Brian Wong, who was never, ever wrong' - a short story that was written by David Walliams which will be removed from future prints.  I also relive one of my highlights of the year which was attending BESEAN ON STAGE as part of ESEA Heritage Month which included karaoke night.
