Sanity x ABCT: Parent Child Interaction Therapy with Dr.’s Kate Gibson and Corey Lieneman Episode

I found the Sanity and the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies podcast series on Apple Podcasts. I listened to the Parent Child Interaction Therapy episode on Apple Podcasts, but I watched it on Spotify as well. I truly enjoyed listening to psychologists Dr. Kate Gibson and Dr. Corey Lieneman discuss their work in Parent Child Interaction Therapy. I appreciated learning that their approaches to improving parent-child relationships are through coaching and facilitating positive interactions between their clients. What stood out to me the most about the episode is their repeated emphasis of using positive reinforcement when working with children, especially those with behavioral challenges. I especially liked that they help parents develop pride skills, which encourage them to praise, reflect, imitate, describe, and enjoy their interactions with their children. As a prospective social worker, I hope to use these skills as a way to build positive relationships with my clients. The episode could clearly support my work as a helping professional since it showed me effective ways to interact with children and assist parents who are struggling with disciplining or connecting with their children. Overall, the episode could be used as an effective teaching tool for helping professionals as well as parents who need guidance in supporting children with and without disabilities.

Sanity x ABCT: What to Do About Worry With Dr. Robert Leahy
5 mars
I recently listened to the episode What to Do About Worry with Dr. Robert Leahy, part of a collaborative series with Sanity X ABCT. I found it convenient to listen on Spotify, but it’s also available on Apple Podcasts, making it easy to access. As someone who tends to worry often, I was drawn to the episode's focus on the impact worry can have on mental health. Dr. Leahy shares valuable insights on how anxiety affects daily life and offers practical tips for managing it. One key takeaway was learning how to differentiate between productive and unproductive worry. Dr. Leahy shared a personal example of how he used productive worry to solve a problem within the same day, calming his anxiety. On the other hand, unproductive worry occurs when we have no control over a future situation, which can lead to unnecessary stress. This episode helped me better understand how to handle worry and differentiate between situations where I can take action and those beyond my control. As a future teacher, I’m always looking for tools to manage stress and support both my future students and myself. I now feel more equipped to navigate overwhelming situations and help others make sense of their feelings, whether they’re children or adults. This podcast is a valuable resource, and I plan to continue using it as a tool in my professional and personal life.
