A Body Apart with artist Amie Pascal

A Body Apart with artist Amie Pascal

Surrealist artist Amie Pascal brings a queer lens to portraying and challenging representations of the body, blurring lines between reality and imagination while juxtaposing abject body horror with beauty. Her work expresses a universal rawness from a queer woman’s disabled embodiment in her new series ‘A Body Apart.’

Some of the things we discussed

00:10:11 - How the pandemic and long COVID changed her art
00:18:21 - The use of vintage anatomical illustrations as reference material and the reclamation of marginalized bodies
00:20:56 - Inspiration from filmmakers and women surrealists
00:27:03 - The "real world" as a liminal and surreal space
00:33:07 - Music pairings for each painting

Retourne-toi! Revisiting Podcast of a Lady on Fire

Retourne-toi! Revisiting Podcast of a Lady on Fire

We originally started this podcast whilst in the throes of a dizzying cinematic crush on Portrait of a Lady on Fire, so those early episodes are a time capsule of what that was like for us and others in Portrait Nation. (#womans #bathtube!) Today we're traveling back in time to revisit our former selves and see how we feel about those 2020 feels now, centuries later, in 2024.

How to Add More Lesbian Chaos to Your Life: Lessons We Learned in 2023

How to Add More Lesbian Chaos to Your Life: Lessons We Learned in 2023

Something we hear a lot (we never hear this) is that everyone's lives were too calm in 2023, so we thought we'd share some of the ways we (mostly accidentally) added a whole bunch of lesbian chaos to our lives this year in case you'd like to spice things up next year.

    These strategies include:

Change work teams, then jobs, and move out of the city
    Talk to queer strangers
    Be a queer Snow White
Set up camp in a new place in the dark
    Accumulate international bugs
Put on a queer talent show
Say yes to all queer art events

The lesbian film podcast that I did not know I needed in my life

This is like sitting on the porch with your cool BFFs listening to them queer literally everything cinematic, BUT with better editing and audio quality and also guests who can talk about thing like “What abortion herbs are they looking for in Portrait of a Lady on Fire?”

Thanks for the content

I love each episode, knowing I’m not the only one hyper focused on everything about this film.

Definitely in my top 5 pods these days!

Funny, insightful, informative, and more. Laurel and Audrey investigate and appreciate all avenues related to one of the greatest films ever made. The creativity and passions of the hosts always makes me excited to see what the next episode will cover!
