Why you should look at a Yaesu VX-6R
The Yaesu VX-6R is a modern classic Ham Radio.
So why should you use this as a scanner radio?
It doesn't trunk. It doesn't do any digital modes. The alpha tags are limited to just 6 characters, and it's nearly 20 years old.
Yep, doesn't seem like this one has many positives when you scratch the surface, but there is more here than meets the eye!
The Yaesu VX-6R receives nearly from .5 MHz - 998.0 MHz.
It receives Broadcast AM & FM, Shortwave (AM), VHF-Lo, Aviation, MilAir, Business Bands, FRS, MURS, GMRS, and of course VHF and UHF Amateur Radio Bands.
This longtime selling radio is water tight, has a HUGE following in the prepper community, and will run circles around any Baofeng.
Selling for around $249 USD, this radio is almost as much as a Whistler WS1040 or WS1065, but neither is water tight, will receive AM or FM Broadcast, or Shortwave.
There are plenty of other reasons to think about putting one of these radios into your Scanner Radio collection. This podcast will continue to outline more reasons to think about the VX-6R.

Military Aviation Scanning with Mike Henson
Mike Henson is relatively new to the scanner radio hobby, but has quickly found Military Aviation and Photography to be a very interesting and rewarding hobby.
Mike shares his setup, which started out as a single radio, and has now grown into several dedicated scanners and a recording interface to log all the local Military Aviation traffic.
What is interesting about Mike's setup, is his keep is simple approach to his setup, which means he is using mostly handheld radios feeding into a portable audio recorder.
Besides photographing and monitoring MilAir, Mike enjoys building different antennas to help improve his reception.

Talking Radio with David Vine
David Vine joins the podcast this week to talk about radio. I am looking forward to having him back as a regular.
David is all about this hobby. From Scanning, GMRS, and Ham, he has immersed himself with the radio hobby. So much so that he has involved himself with many local clubs and organizations.
His love of the hobby does not end there. David has created many presentations about the radio hobby, specifically ham, that can also be carried over to the scanner radio hobby.
Today's conversation is an introduction to who David is. You'll learn all about his radio history, what makes him tick, and a little about some of the presentations that he will hopefully share with us one day.

Excellent podcast and more for scanner radios fans
This podcast channel and all the associated resources Phil has put together through his scanner school website and related social media sites are superb and fill a need that many of us scanner enthusiasts maybe didn’t even realize existed!. Though I’ve been a licensed ham for many years, after listening to just a few of these podcasts, I’ve already learned details about the hobby that have eluded me for a long time Phil’s down to earth style is excellent and welcoming to all regardless of skill level. I’m looking forward to catching up on two plus years worth of podcasts as well as taking his SDR course. Thanks Phil!

Very informative and easy to listen.
More Than A Podcast
I had been in the hobby before and when the times kept us home I looked at it again. I started looking and found that what I knew wasn’t current. Ordered new scanner and was amazed how complicated they could appear. Not many resources as well developed as Scanner School. Started at the beginning of podcasts and felt as if my knowledge level increased to be able to use the new radio. Now I have the hobby bad and monitor multiple areas of interest. Not all podcasts apply to my areas of interests but are extremely informative and well produced.
