Dave Jackson’s Journey from Basic Gear to Professional Podcasting
I had two people ask me about the "Behind the Scenes" operations of the School of Podcasting. I was nervous about doing this episode. If you're new to the show, I normally don't talk about myself for 47 minutes. As I had two people ask similar questions, I thought I'd share information about:
Where I Started (start ugly - great book)
My first podcast setup
My first "business office"
Why and how I upgraded (and why you probably don't need to).
What I'm using now for the podcast and the business.
I also mention the Podcaster Happy Hour (check out this new networking and education event).

Question of the MonthPer Jacobs Media, 70% of Podcast Discovery comes from word of mouth. With this in mind, what was the last thing you recommended to someone, and (more importantly) why? (This doesn't have to be a podcast, but if it is cool!). I need your answer by July 26th, 2024. Don't forget to say the name of your show, your website address, and a little bit about it (your tagline, etc). Don't have a website? Order a domain at Coolerwebsites.com

Different Input - Different Show
Today we talk about if your show is feeling stale, maybe a change of input could help. One form of content that might be getting overlooked is books. In addition to libraries, there are online tools. In Ohio we have Libby and Hoopla Digital that allow you to listen audiobooks for free. Spotify has recently added audiobooks to their service and Amazon has Audible.
When you change the information that is feeding your brain, you change the output of your show.

Opinions Matter and Yours Needs to Be Heard
Why are reaction videos so popular? I mean, I can watch or listen to something and have my own reaction? Today I tie this into podcasting and how sharing your opinion can help you build your community.
I play clips from a show I like, one that drives me nuts, and one that will potentially offend you as it deals with pronouns (which is the whole point - how does it make you feel).
I also talk about brand safety and how it's not working, and maybe we shouldn't worry about it.

Great Show For a New Podcaster
Recently started listening to Dave’s show and I am learning a ton about the podcast space. He does a great job mixing things up to keep it entertaining.
Authentic, fun, and very informative!
Just discovered this podcast and am binging now. I generally don't listen to shows geared toward podcast hosts because I'm a booking agent...I don't have a show. However, I am glad I decided to give this show a listen because I'm learning so much more about the industry and from a Podcast Hall of Famer no less so who better to listen to, right?
I love Dave's humor and authenticity. His credibility and trustworthiness makes this a podcast I will continue to listen to and suggest to everyone who is or is considering being in the podcasting space! Put this one reverse play so you can catch the many past episodes...you'll learn so much from a master and in an enjoyable way!
Podpage
Your recent episode on Podpage Elite got me to upgrade from Pro. Worked with the SEO feature last night and corrected all my shows. Most had 4 or 5 warnings and 3 or so fails. Now, they’re all perfect. Definitely worth a 5 star review and a follow. Thanks!!
