Science Fiction

I came to the podcast through the Facebook community. I believe I have listened to all of them, some multiple times. The podcast is accessible to anyone who enjoys speculative fiction. If you are looking for deeper levels of understanding that is here for you as well. The arc of these criticisms and essays is tied together with Damien’s search for and analysis of the 21st century myth. I have gained a far deeper understanding of sci fi classics I thought I thoroughly knew. I have been enriched in my enjoyment of shows like Andor and Severance with Damien’s insight. I’ve also exposed my socratically trained mind to new and forgotten ways of thinking. The experience has enriched my life and inspired me to start writing again after better than a decade of hiatus. Ask yourself, next time you have a remote control in your hand, how you want to spend your time. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed if you choose to spend it here.

I enjoy the intellectual discussion sometimes, but the politics becomes too heavy handed. Very pompous host. I can tolerate a bit of ego, but his speech impediment is so distracting that I would seriously question why someone who is making his living as a podcaster and YouTuber speaks with such a strong speech impediment. It’s difficult to actually listen to. A few weeks with a speech therapist would fix the issue. Every “TH” is pronounced as an “F”. Someone who claims to be educated and a master of the written word should consider fixing this issue, so that people will want to listen without distraction.

While I don’t always agree with Damien, I find his perspective thought-provoking and his approach interesting and rigorous. Too few science fiction podcasts apply concepts and frameworks from religion, psychology, and literary criticism to science fiction. I’ve recommended this podcast to everyone with even a passing interest in the subject, and I intend to continue to do so. Note to Damien: It would be great to have an option for discussion outside of Facebook. There are many of us who do not want to be part of that company’s exploitative business model. Hopefully you could consider some alternatives. Thank you!

I really enjoy this podcast. At the risk of being simplistic Damien is sort of like the Joe Rogan of sci fi in that he’s not afraid to have a unfettered conversation about virtually anything. If you are interested in a self aware discussion science fiction as it relates to the human condition then you will like this.
